There is no way over a thousand pounds worth of mains cable is going to give you a commensurate return IMO, just not possible. It depends on what you mean by 'commensurate', Tim. I have already given one example in another thread where one such cable gave me a much better return compared with an amplifier upgrade costing many thousands of Pounds more. All things are relative, and it was a relatively worthwhile upgrade.

It depends on what you mean by 'commensurate', Tim. Ah yes, there's the rub - we are for sure at different points on my sliding scale of where you place the music or the system.

Tim You had to be there to hear the difference. It was not subtle
I look for more music. I'm happy when I find it

I think the inherent problem here is that we have very different definitions of the word music or 'more music' Mike. To me what you are referring to is a different sound - 'more music' for me, means just that 'more music', not different Hi-Fi toys.

More *out of* the music then ? I buy more music all the time and listen to music almost every hour of the day, while I'm working is very nice. If I can improve what I already have as I go along I'm dead happy. After a couple of years I have my systems sounding superb. Further improvements increase my pleasure. Being 'not that young' after working hard all my life, having no other vices, car worth less than my bike, I'm happy to indulge myself on buying more music and hearing more and more from the original recordings. I wonder if we're robustly agreeing with each other

I think you're trying to make a point Tim, but we may well all be agreeing with each other. Better kit equals getting more from the music, of that there is no doubt, otherwise you'd be listening to an iPod and Bose Wave Radio. You're not, so therefore you wanted better sound for your music. So do we. How far we go to get it is just that: how far we're prepared to go.

I think you're trying to make a point Tim, but we may well all be agreeing with each other. I guess so, but music and Hi-Fi to me are not the same thing and as I deal in factuality on a day to day basis, I find it confusing when the lines get blurred. I don't however think we are agreeing with each other, but I've said my piece and it's been heard so I'll button it.
