Hello All.
Just joined this forum, clearly. A lover of music rather than of equipment per se. Quite diverse tastes from Satie, through Vaughan Williams and Rachmaninov, to Muse via Steely Dan and Rage against the Machine.
Most of my kit is NVA with a Rega Apollo-R and Brio DAC front-end and Grado headcans. I find it all suits me well and I'll like the way things are done.
Later. K

How does it sound...?
Like it's not there, or about as near as I can imagine it.
Satie piano rings around the whole room. Off-key Muse semi-acoustic guitar sounds like he's in the room. Vaughan Williams and Rachmaninov symphonies fill the room.

Hello Jammy.
Did you see I tried your suggestion using the Tape Out from the P50 to the AP10H?
I used some Sound Cords at first and then bought some SSP Mk1 trade-ins from the Doc.
Sounds awesome..... but not as good as the AP10H-JS I imagine???

Later. K Hi and welcome from me. Not too far South of you. Whilst we seem to have very different tastes in music, I like your choice of kit. I always enjoy seeing pics of members systems. If you ever fancy posting a thread here, I for one would like to see your setup.

Hello from Edinburgh! I ride my bike in the Borders fairly often - lovely part of the world. Haven't heard it but I think I would like NVA kit.
Enjoy the forum!

Absolutely yes... But in the usual NVA way, that is more of the same. Make sure you get Mk2 SSP's or you'll spend half your life soldering the buggers back together again.

I recently added a Rega Brio DAC to my Apollo-R Cd player.
The difference the DAC has made is quite astonishing. I even took the (for me) unusual step of going back to CD player only for an hour or so, then re-introducing the DAC.
The CD player on it's own is very good and I've been happy with it driving the NVA kit for some months now. However re-hooking the DAC was similar to upgrading a piece of NVA kit, in that the sound didn't change, there was simply more of it.
A quite astonishing sound-stage with good depth, a spooky presence of the vocalist being in the room, and a shift-change in being able to identify individual instruments within a group (say lead 2nd violin).
Also when cranked right up (I seldom do), there was no hardness to the sound as there was with the CD, if only slightly. Just the same sublime music, but louder.
(Music used: Goldfrapp, Royal Blood, Steely Dan, Muse, Rage against the Machine, LSO Rachmaninov, Vaughan Williams).

DACs have come a long way in recent years. The level of quality can be astounding. Glad your CD player has been reinvigorated.

I have yet to hea a Rega product I didn't like. They could charge far more for their kit IMO but they have always offered value for money. NVA also offer great VFM and again their electronics sound fab to me.
