There is an existing thread for comments on Clarkson, they are not relevant here. When did you compare an AT95e with an Ortofon Black: with which arm/turntable and accompanying system so that we can assess your opinion in context? Martin, It's not the AT95E I was referring to in my posts elsewhere, but the AT95 with the ATN95SA Jico stylus. A completely different beast. I admit that the AT95E isn't particularly good. You can't expect much for under £40. On the end of an FX1200 it sounds pretty good for it's price. This thread reads a bit odd, so I am guessing that the "Ignore" function is working.

Yes, odd but all the more pleasant for it. "ignore" is working well for me too. It's something I very rarely use but it's very handy and really appreciated. My first proper TT back in 1986 had an AT95e on it and I had plenty of enjoyment from it. I'm sure some more well-heeled audiophiles scoffed at my humble starter system but I have fond memories of it. Lots of K9 and K18 lovers around too. These are also AT95e derived. I still find ithe 95 a decent buy for the money. Of course some people won't like it but that's fine It's not compulsory to have the same tastes. I don't see many complaints about the Rega carbon which is a largely re-badged inferior AT cart (AT91 IIRC). I bougt one of those about a year ago on recommendation and I really thought it was inferior to the AT95e. The JICO stylus reportedly lifts the humble AT95e significantly. It's also cheaper than buying a used Linn K18 so it's something I'd like to hear one day. I do like my MC carts but can still enjoy some MMs including AT95 and its offspring/derivatives.

I'm trying to sneak a stylus in without the Mrs spotting it. It's a bit difficult with a joint account.

At least you can fit a new stylus without it getting noticed. My wife came back into find I had sneaked in a pair of Isobariks on day. Then there was the time I blew £1300 from our central heating fund on an Ekos. You could always buy her something at the same time........or treat her to anew syylus

But with a 2M Black, an AT150MLX, a SAE1000LT, a MP150 and the AT95E I don't really need the SA stylus.

Martin, It's not the AT95E I was referring to in my posts elsewhere, but the AT95 with the ATN95SA Jico stylus. Thanks for the correction. The Jico stylus puts it into a different level altogether. I know John likes them.

This discussion makes me recall the review in a certain magazine some years ago, where a Koetsu Black was found somewhat lacking when compared to a Linn Basik (which was an AT95 with a glued on stylus assembly). Nothing new under the sun!

Nothing new under the sun! That "certain magazine" wouldn't be 'The Flat Response' would it? The amount of Linn/Naim sycophancy promulgated by its blinkered editor was beyond belief! I can remember them simply dismissing the Breuer Dynamic Type 8 arm, all because you could not fit the Linn Troika into the arm's fixed headshell using all three fixings. Fortunately the audio press and now, audio fora, have moved on.

Anyone got any thoughts on Dynavector cartridges? I like them. Generally dark in nature but they do vary. The 20X2L I had was nice, with great energy.

Anyone got any thoughts on Dynavector cartridges? They generally get good reviews. The only Dynavector I have heard was the Ultimo 20A, but that was back in the early '80s. Since I don't remember too much about it, it neither had any obvious flaws, nor was it outstandingly good. A Dynavector cartridge that I would like to hear is this, the XV-1: www.analogueseduction.net/user/products/large/1245317279_xvs_finalo_w450_h400.gif I'm intrigued by the design, as it seem to mimic the coil arrangement of the cutter head used to cut the lacquer in the first place.

I was thinking about the Karat 17 & 23. They are different from the rest of the DV range. They don't have the weight but what they do have is awesome speed and edge detail. Phenomenal attack and transparency. Need a good, heavyweight, arm.

... and folks, you now has JAZZ (accredited to Louis Armstrong) . Let me explain, my original post was, 'Your tone arm interconnect cable?'. I watched the first few posts take up on my question but bit by bit others have come in and the thread, like Jazz, has meandered to pickup cartridges, arguments about same, feathers being ruffled and so on just like Jazz musicians perform and react to a piece of music. It sticks with the original piece then takes off in one direction then another depending on the soloist's interpretation of the theme. Good Jazz music is performed, composed, de-composed and re-constructed in front of its listener's ears and according to how the performer intends. I find this the case with some audio appreciation forums, and individuals therein, such as this.... I love it, I love it, bravo, encore, JazzBones .
