All this from a man who has declared his HiFi is a disaster? Have you ever heard the Cyrus CLS70 speakers? Unfortunately yes, and being quite candid they are truly grim and unquestionably dire. One for DQ sense of morals 'Not fit for purpose' It's odd that HiFi Choice, what HiFi and HiFi World all rated them highly. They are not the easiest speaker to partner, but if you get it right, they are pretty good. I admit that they are not the best. If they really are "truly grim and unquestionably dire" then I should see an improvement replacing them with some Coda 7s or something else I have lying round? I tried that, and the CLS70 were easily better. What didn't you like about them?

He was moderated - read the thread. Martin clearly requested him to stop.

While I'm at it (and this is not just addressed at one person), I ought to mention that one thing I hope we don't see more of at TAS is people pronouncing that the gear that other people have chosen is 'shit' or suchlike. That sort of behaviour might be par for the course on other fora, but not here - please have some respect for other people's choices even if you wouldn't make them yourself.

I'm glad there's no place for that here. Not only is it frustrating to see certain individuals wanting to dictate other people's choices, it also seems to be used as a way to criticise, attack or provoke the person

Yes, there are a few people around the hi-fi community who seem to specialise in that & it's something I particularly despise.

I have never questioned taste on this forum but Anybody who prefers an at95e to an ortofon black needs to be told that is bizarre beyond belief. And if anybody disagrees speak up.

DQ, as far as I am concerned, you are as good as banned now to me. You have been added to the Ignore list. You can take your troll outfit off now...

Sorry but all ad hominem will now be removed, regardless of the originator.
Keep it impersonal and all is fair. By all means say what you think of any cartridge!

And the AT95B fits where in that comment? The comments about the AT95 were about the SA version. I prefer the AT house sound to the ortofon. The SA stylus currently retails at about £90, which is a much better VFM proposition than a 2M Black when you have kids in the house.
I prefer my AT150MLX to my 2M black. The 2M black seems to sound more clinical, whilst the AT150 is more musical. However, I am told that my preference is wrong.
If I didn't have a few other projects on the go, I would buy an AT150ANV.
One small point, I am struggling to see where I stated I prefer the AT95E over a 2M Black, so if anybody (other than DQ, as I don't see his posts anymore) can let me know, I would appreciate it. A post I made on another forum States I wanted to see if I could live with the character of the AT95, and that I missed the da tail of the other cartridges. I guess that if English is not your strong point, this could be confused with saying you had a preference for it?

I too tend to prefer AT to Ortofon and also find that the ones I have tried in each camp appear to have a house sound. I find Ortofons too wispy and light for my tastes. I've had a few OM, VNMS and MC range carts over the years and also played with a 2M Red, altnoughI haven't heard the Black I've also had many AT and AT inspired MMs as well as many MCs. The most expensive Ortofon I had was a Quasar (roughly equivalent to an MC 30 Super) and it was easily bettered to my ears by an OC7. An OC9 was a huge step up again. That's only to my tastes though. I'd never go round pronouncing Ortofon are rubbish or vice versa. It poses no problem to me that others get enjoyment from things that rub me up the wrong way. It's both refreshing and intriguing. Frankly, the thought of trying to tell someone else they should ignore their own ears and listen to something that suits mine instead is both illogical and comical. I don't think I'd benefit from Kevin's hifi being to my tastes because I don't expect I'd hear it from my living room, even with the windows open and a favourable wind

I must ask the wind to blow harder. Renovating a house means that the HiFi budget is restricted, so I have to do the best I can with what I have. My choices may not be your choices, but I am not you. It amazes me that HiFi forums are rife with this kind of argument, especially when it's all done for pleasure - apparently. There must be some ill feeling or bad experiences for people to be so bitter.

Ortofons vary. Yes, I preferred an AT OC7 over my previous Ortofon MC20 Super, and then preferred again the OC9 and again the 33PTG. However, the SPU is a different kettle of fish and should not be ignored. Massively organic and realistic, it makes music like few others I have ever heard.

Lots of people seem to love the SPU range so I'd love to hear them one day. People who like them also seem to like the enhanced versions of the DL-103 which I both know and love. I've had both OC9 and AT-33s lately. I liked both equally and could happily live with either.

It makes for an interesting contrast with my Shelter. Both sound wonderful, but they do it differently.

MODERATOR: irrelevant wibble removed.
The Ate 95 e is a £25 moving magnet with poor specs , a flimsy stylus many people recommend super gluing on and a diamond so big a Wag would proud to wear it on her finger .
The ortofon 2m black is the most widely well regarded moving magnet cartridge in the world , it costs £495 and £395 for a new stylus , it as a fine line dimond and I have never ever read anyone say a bad word against it .

There is an existing thread for comments on Clarkson, they are not relevant here.
When did you compare an AT95e with an Ortofon Black: with which arm/turntable and accompanying system so that we can assess your opinion in context?

I have not compared it to an Ortofon 2m black . I still own one and have compared it to everything I have owned , it is bloody rubbish .
I am happy to conclude the internets collective wisdom on the 2m black is accurate .
