As long as they keep Kate's hands off the mastering. In my opinion, she is the reason why some of her better recent albums sound so bland and undynamic.

The LP mastering on those was likely done in house from files at Optimal who pressed the vinyl. Will have to check my copies. Thought 50 Words For Snow sounded all right but Directors Cut is a bit leaden sounding. Kate has been self producing since 'The Dreaming' and all albums have above average sound though not audiophile gems.

I heard her on Woman's Hour a year or two back. Her point was that her earlier recordings were done in the early days of digital mixing and mastering, and sounded really unpleasant (yes, indeed they did). Maybe now she has erred in the opposite direction.

Classic - I was referring to final mixdown, sorry if I used the wrong term. No she isn't a mastering engineer, but her choices in the studio led to a thick dense sound with a distinct lack of dynamics. Perhaps too much use of compression?
I don't find The Kick Inside unpleasant - it's not the greatest, but sounds more freed up.

Cheers Classic, will get this album.
She's a national treasure, kind of regret selling my Hammersmith tickets now.
