Anyone using or has used this venerable cartridge of yesteryears? I've used an AT33EV for awhile now, suppose to be a successor to the AT33PTG, looks similar physically except for its red colour? I'm wondering/curious as to how these two compare performance ways? In my box of cartridges I also have a Stilton bodied OC9 loved it until it was side swiped by a yellow duster (I've hated yellow dusters ever since, is this non- PC?), ouch!, and I also have an AT-OC9ML/II. To a degree I prefer the latter but find all of the AT carts mentioned can be a bit biting in their presentation of massed violins or the stridence of multiple brass instruments. I love the ATs for their presentation of strung wooden instruments such as violins on their own, cellos, upright acoustic bass, acoustic guitar but piano can be a bit strident in the upper reaches of the treble clef although this is down to the quality of vinyl pressing/engineering as is usually the case.
What I'm looking for is a combined mix of the ATs and a slightly warming of the overall presentation, does this make sense?
Nowadays; a life in retirement, I limit potential spending on a pickup cartridge to circa UK£500.00p give or take a fiver therefore the ATs have always been an attractive proposition. By the way my tone arm is a modified Linn Ekos by AO/J7 with slight damping, kondo sliver wiring, low slung Isokentiks counter weight, mounted on a mega modded Technics 1210MK2 sighted on a Towshend Seismic sink combined rubber sheaved bellows & coiled springs platform sitting on a modified Origin Live Ultra turntable stand (once used for my LP12).... for those who may be slightly interested, the deck is powered by a TimeStep Shunt T-01PSU (good on ya Dave), Mike New Al/Cu platter with Nagaoka GL602 crystal glass TT mat, Furetech Monza record weight (350grams), Mike New bearing and bearing base plate plus judicious damping of the chassis. With regards to the TT feet, after much experimenting (Isonoes etc) I settled on Delrin coned spikes facing downwards on the Seismic sink, there is a slight resemblance to what MartinT has done recently although my setup has been like this for over two years now so no copy catting here.
Sorry for rambling but will appreciate all info/advice concerning the Audio Technica AT33PTG/II and where I can get one. Mucho thanks.
