I'm really looking forward to Prom 56 on Thursday 27th August. Stravinsky's Rite of Spring (Litton and the Bergen PO), yum! For Ruth: Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with Alina Ibragimova.

Charles Dutoit conducting the RPO at the Festival Hall on Tuesday 29th March:
1. Respighi: Fountains of Rome 2. Dvorák: Cello Concerto (Gautier Capuçon) 3. Stravinsky: Petrushka (1911)
Really looking forward to it (though wish it could have been his old orchestra, the Montreal).

Wish I could join you Martin but am heading to Madchester...
Sounds like a superb line-up and I have never heard the Dvorak live... Enjoy!

Wow, wow, what a first half! The Respighi was sumptuous and Capucon was mesmerising in the Dvorak. Dutoit's band are pretty stunning, too. Full write-up soon.

Excellent!
Wish I had been there instead of battling driving rain and traffic on motorways...

I've got to get looking at concert events again. It's been an unusually dry year for me.

I am determined to get a ticket for the sold out Mutter / Beethoven!
Yes, more concerts for me next year too.

We need to have another TAS classical gig get-together. Let's see if we can find a concert of interest to a few members and have a meet-up beforehand?

We're going to meet up with some friends at The Anvil, Basingstoke, for a concert of Gershwin with the London Concert Orchestra this Friday. Not really a top composer for me, but I like The Anvil as a venue and it's not costing us anything.

I'm not a huge Gershwin fan either but sure it will be pleasant enough!

Xenakis is a composer I know nothing about, and neither does my Greek wife ... The blurb says that "he revolutionised twentieth-century classical music." What would you recommend we have a listen to?

I think he's wonderful! But perhaps an acquired taste.... Maybe try Metastaises to start
