Try them, Mike. We could have a TAS concert outing if you fancy going to one.

I tried to get tickets to hear The Quartet for the End of Time at the Edinburgh International Festival, but unfortunately all the tickets went very quickly. There isn't a great programme of classical music this year IMO, so I'll be sticking mostly to comedy. Lawrence

The Proms programme is a little weak and I'm away for a couple of the good ones. I've got one booked so far.

I used to love singing Messiaen when I was a chorister back in the day. Wonderfully atmospheric music.

I'm going to try to get to this lunchtime concert at St James's Piccadilly ...
Joseph Tong piano
Beethoven: Sonata in A major, Op.2, No.2 Ravel: Valses nobles et sentimentales Sibelius: Five Esquisses, Op.114 Liszt: Mephisto Waltz No.1
Always enjoy the Ravel, and am intrigued to hear this 'minor' piece of Sibelius ... Had a look at the soloist's website and he looks more than capable of delivering another worthwhile concert at this lovely church ...

I was at the Southbank today and discovered that they have an up and coming Rachmaninov season. Can't believe I missed this since he's an absolute favourite of mine. Here are the details - www.lpo.org.uk/events/rachmaninoff-inside-out.htmlI intend to book for at least three concerts and hopefully more!

Just noticed that Martha Argerich has Beethoven 1 scheduled with Daniel Barenboim at the Festival Hall next year. Ticket prices appear to be considerably higher than most. Of course she may not turn up - I've had tickets to two previous concerts that have both been cancelled ... If it was a concerto that I really enjoyed I may have taken another punt but I'll be giving this a miss ... www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whatson/daniel-barenboim-staatskapel-81305

I had tickets for her to play the Grieg and she didn't turn up What I would really pay for would be her playing the Rach 3. I reckon the tickets would sell out in 37s.

My dream would be to see her play Ravel's 'Gaspard de la nuit'. Probably my favourite piano work of all time and one of the most difficult in the entire repertoire to master ... I have her recording of it on DG.
The Grieg would also be fab.

The Grieg is pretty much my all-time favourite piano concerto.

Kyung Wha Chung - the legend returnsKyung Wha Chung is one of my favourite violinists of all time. Her benchmark early recordings for Decca in the 70's of the Bruch, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius concertos are supremely lyrical and radiantly expressive. I am very excited to find out today that she is making an all too rare visit to these shores on Tuesday December 2, playing an intimate programme of music with piano accompaniment at the Festival Hall. www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whatson/kyung-wha-chung-the-return-t-82342?dt=2014-12-02

Managed to get a ticket for the Kyung Wha Chung concert next week - am really looking forward to it. Tickets have sold really well - I'm delighted to see that she is still held in such high esteem in this country.

I'm going to see Duruflé's Requiem and two Debussy pieces with Donald Runnicles and the LSO at the Barbican, 1st March. Let me know if anyone else is going and I'll buy you a drink

Next week I'm lucky enough to have tickets for the three night 'Sibelius cycle' at the Barbican - Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Phil are taking on all the symphonies and the Violin Concerto. Bought the tickets many months ago and it sold out uber quickly - should be rather wonderful I hope!

I watched the live transmission last night on TV. It sounded better on TV than the actual hall does! I must admit I'm a little more won over to Sibelius now.

I'm going to two solo Bach violin recitals at this year's Proms, featuring Alina Ibragimova. To be honest I had never heard of her before booking the tickets. Has anyone heard her playing, recorded or live?
Tonight I went to a slightly more modest affair in Stoke Newington. A gathering of violin teachers and their pupils playing a short concert to parents. My son has only been learning a couple of months but stepped up to play a couple of short duets with his teacher. The acoustic in the very striking Victorian church was most pleasing indeed. It was a really lovely event and excellent for developing confidence.

Really looking forward to Sep 5 at the Albert Hall - Yo-Yo Ma performing all six Bach cello suites ... Entirely sold-out, should be quite an evening.
