I got a little bit bored, and then decided to dig out my Royd A7 II Seakers to keep my mind busy. As always, these Royds provides me with excellent musicality. Perhaps a tad uncouth at times, but I can't really argue that much!! This thread welcomes other Royd owners/ex owners. Please do feel free to share some pics too!! S.

I tried to find a pic of my old A7s but no luck. I do have a pic of my Elas though, which are as much Royd as they are Rega.

I've never owned a pair of Royd's and the only model I've ever listened to, albeit briefly, are their Minstrels. Even though I was in their company for only ten or fifteen minutes, what impressed me was the sense of scale these diddy floor-standers are capable of portraying.

I wish I had kept my Merlins for a second system in the future... Exceptionally engaging small speakers which I ended up selling to a dude in Japan for a lot of money...

brian2957,
To be honest, I don't want any mods on done on my A7's.
I'm guessing your A7's are the earlier version, with the distinctive ''purple'' tweeter??

A7s are ridiculously good and show just how talented Joe Ackroyd was. They still have the Royd family sound and he is the only designer who has managed to make that audax tweeter sound good to me.
I'm sure the steel lining must improve the sound but I had Edens and Sapphires at the same time and found them inter-changeable. The fact one was steel lined and the other wasn't, did not seem to lead me to prefer one over the other.

Arh yes the foot tappers and whippet thrashers top tune dem transducer of choice a pink fish top wish list before I die flat earther speaker of repute
These delightful tune holding boxes of fun packed rhythmic propulsion that have warmed many a cold winters night with their toe taping and head bobbing infectious sounds
I have had around 20 pairs over the years even the dublets
Now there are back producing speakers again in all places, Wales
What do you feel was the best combination electronics wise with these?
At these boxes could hold a tune unlike the kan's lol
Now where's my Robin Hood outfit.......

Personally I've generally enjoyed Naim, Exposure, NVA and Rega amps with Royd. The best sound I've had from them though was a KSA50. Other notable successes were an Aragon 4004 and even a Bryston 4B ST. One other combo I liked was the Linn LK1/LK2 or LK1/LK280. I've had lots of these over the years and I like them a lot. Nobody else has a good word to say for them but I can only speak as I find.
Royds often used to be sold with Ion amps. Ive had a few of these over the years but they have never coincided with Royd ownership.

I've just finished listening to some electronic music through my A7's.
The bass was slightly lacking in some depth, but yet very tight and solid. At least there was no annoying bass heavy emphasis happening in the room.
As always, great little speakers. They are ideal speakers for small rooms etc.

I once purchased a pair of A7 but one of the bass drivers had a rubbing magnet so I never got the opportunity to hear what they were capable of. Also had Eden, Apex, Minstrel, Doublet, Merlin & Sorcerers.
For me the stars are the Edens... They just sound so right.

Thats 'cos your a man of taste Jammy ! Aw shuck's istari........... Aye the so called "new Royds" seem to have died a death, not a patch on Joe's originals by all accounts. Nice condition original Royds are getting scarce now.

It doesn't help that most Royd fans like to have at least three pairs of different models in their collection ! I had a read of the current Royd website and was confused by the design description... They state that a doped paper cone is used as in the Royds of old which is then crossed over at 7KHz - Seems awfully high for a doped bass driver to be crossing over ?! Maybe I got confused.
