Any recommendations I want to try both Optical and Tosh when I build the Raspberry Pi. Already have a decent Optical cable

Confusion seems afoot. Toslink=optical, SPDIF=COAX

Nope. S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) is the data format.
It can be carried over optical or co-ax.

To answer the question, the best Toslink optical cable I've tried is Stan Beresford's. It's a reasonable price, too.

Of course, there are some that would say all hi-fi cables are tosh.

I use a Mark Grant glass Toslink. Haven't tried coax yet as the Caiman II only has one coax input and the Touch is using that.

Nope. S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) is the data format. It can be carried over optical or co-ax. Nope, to be fair, Zathras likes fairness, the S/PDIF specification calls out both the link layer protocol AND the physical layer specification.

A slight thread hi-jack: Is there a recommended maximum length for optical cables? (I recall Martin mentioning that there was a recommended minimum length for coax) I ask as I'm in the market for a new cable, but it'll need to be around 5m.

Can you use an AT&T glass optical cable with the Pi at all?

Don't worry about anything up to 10m en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOSLINK

Zathras is an interesting character from a series full of interesting characters. I haven't had a B5 fix for a very long time, I need to remedy that tout suite...

I have a Cable Talk "Optical 3" which uses medical grade glass optical fibre... Apparently They crop up on eBay from time to time & usually sell for a fiver or less. Its preferable to any of the plastic one's I've tried thus far.
