Thanks, John and Brian. That is even more helpful. For burn in I will use their new audiophile SMPS (whatever that means) PSU's. I have bought two amps and intend to bi-amp. initially I intend to use them as intergrated amps but will move onto the use of a Beresford Cappella as Pre and adjust them as power amps thereafter. Configureration will be one amp stereo for low frequency feed to my bi-wired speakers and the other as stereo mid/high frequency. Beresford Capella will be run from battery and I'm planning a linear PS U for the amps in due course.

Leave them on 24/7 for 4 days or so Greg, 100 hours or so will do it. Can't remember, are you getting the Capella as a pre for it?
I'd say this is a must, the mini-1 is good on its own, but it's a limited performance envelope before clipping comes in...and you can hear it.

Yeah , but put a Capella in front and it gives the Mini-1 a right boot up the backside . The Chinese PSU is the icing on the cake IMO Enjoy yourself tomorrow Greg and don't keep things all to yourself mind It will be interesting to see how their new PSU performs .

Thanks, Gary, 100 hours seems the target in general. Thereafter, you don't read my messages properly, but that's probably because you are stuffed with chocolate brownies Yep, recognise the clipping issue which is why I have ordered two amps to spread the load albeit my speakers are relatively efficient and present a very easy load, just like your Edingdales. I already have the Capella and to be sure it will be introduced into the system as a pre at the earliest opportunity. However, I'm going to take this in stages. I want to check one item at a time, so initially one Mini 1, followed by one per channel, followed by Capella introduction. I want to get a proper handle on all this. Remember, if this works, I am taking a massive redirection in how my system is set up. My heart wants my valve amps to be supreme, but my head suggests this more modern technology may have caught up. I spent yesterday with friends and in particular, Nick (nb) listening to his new system. What he has is completely in a different league to what I would ever be able to afford with high end Magico speakers fed from bi-amped Devialet amplification. It sounded wonderful and now I am hoping my aural memory will be sufficiently fickle so I won't remember the sound. This system was totally digital, sounded fantastic and that is the issue I'm now challenged with. I would never be able to afford it but I am just hoping that the pair of Mini 1's coupled with a Capella might just scratch the surface of the sound quality I heard at Nick's and actually allow satisfaction. There ŵe go....watch this space. Brian, I intend to buy the Chinese power supply after the Chinese New Year Holiday disruption ends but expect I can better this in due course. I need to speak to a very clever mate who is demonstrating this weekend at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show. For certain I will keep this thread alive and update as I make progress.

I am really interested in your findings I like that you are doing things in stages. I no idea if it be better than you valve amp, it will have a lot of speed and detail and the way you setting up should also give it clout

Yup, be interesting to hear how the digital amps compare to your big Sony battleship amp Brian. Two completely different approaches to amp design...game on.

Looking forward to reading some of the findings of both Greg and Brian. Having heard Brians set up a few times it will be interesting to read if the combo does the business in his set up in the same way it did in my own and Garys different systems.
I went back to tubes out of curiosity- they sounded lovely with the Capella giving them a helping hand....Gregs findings will be good to read (positive or negative).

Well Gary eventually turned up today with the Mini-1 , Capella , and Chinese PSU . I can forgive him for being late these days as he's getting on a bit and we only organised this last night . I just feed him tea and Bourbon creams and he's usually happy at that . He's been burning in this combo for me for the last 2 weeks and I was looking forward to hearing them again . We had already tried plugging in the components one at a time and had a fair idea what each individual component brought to the party so we just plugged everything in together . I currently use a Sony TA F770ES . A big powerful ' tank ' of an amp . I've been enjoying it for the past 2 years . It's a very powerful amp which drives my MA R852s with ease . Sound -wise I would say it is on the warm side of neutral with a big soundstage and a big powerful sound . Some might describe it as ' safe ' compared to the Mini-1 combo .We listened to that for a while to familiarise ourself with the sound. We then plugged in the Mini-1 / Capella / Chinese PSU and were quite surprised at the reults . After 2 weeks burn in the combination had improved significantly . The soundstage was now much bigger , and the midrange had opened right up . This is a very clean , neutral , sound which never sounded bright or fatiguing . The top end can really sound sublime at times , sparkling and very natural and bass is 'just there 'driving everything along and never interfering with the music . Track after track just sounded more natural and ' interesting ' .One criticism is that I would prefer a little of the warmth of the Sony but that's a minor fault when everything else sounds so right . I think that adding a Chinese PSU to the Capella or doubling up on the amps may address this minor ( IMO ) issue . What I really like about this combimation is that they sound really excellent in this basic form, however there are numerous cost - effective upgrade options available , the cheapest being adding the Chinese PSU at £50 , add another Mini-1 at £105 , or add both at £155 . Then later on add another Capella at £200 . I will probably go down this road at a later date , but for now I'm really happy with what I've got

Brian, thanks for your feedback which is encouraging. My Mini 1's arrived today but have had no time to hook them in and listen, but, the good lady is going away tomorrow for a week's holiday and I can do anything I like in her absence!
I'll start evaluation from tomorrow and report back here accordingly.
After loading this, I'm sending you a PM.

Yup, another good day at Brians. We heard pretty much right away and commented that the Mini-1 combo was better. Agree with Brian that when we plumbed the Sony back in a touch of its extra weight and warmth would have been welcome. What was missing though was the "hairs on the back of your neck" feeling that playing through the Capella/ Mini-1 combo had. We threw all different types of music at it, all had that X factor the Sony didn't have. What we heard though was the Mini-1 "base configuration", as Brian says, fitting a better PSU to the Capella, a proper DC cable etc. will all bring improvements. And that's the key I think to this approach, its modular...and the scope for improving things an little cost is fantastic. Great bit of kit. Greg, over to you.
