Just loving listening to good ol’ fashioned analogue FM on my old skool Toshiba tuner. Easily the best tuner I have had, it has a wonderfully full, warm sound with powerful bass - Classic FM doing the business and sounding so sweet right now. Love the dials which allow you to tune in the signal to perfection. The weighted tuning is also a joy and reception is remarkably hiss free with just the string aerial hanging by the window.

That's a lovely shot, Jules. There's still a tuner-shaped hole in my system - I'd love to find something similar to yours with the mechanical dial - the only one's I've come across in second-hand shops and the like have been nondescript black boxes with rather characterless buttons and digital displays.

I love a good tuner! I had a bit of a problem with tuner and receiver buying at one time! I'm down to just three usable ones now, having divested myself of loads. This is my favourite, and the best all-round tuner I've ever owned, the Accuphase T-101

I currently use an old Technics tuner which is very good but I revisited my past and bought a Myst TMR. It needs a stronger signal though, so I'll have to simply enjoy looking at it until after I move house.

Yip another FM /broadcast fan here especially of spoken word. I've got a Denon tuner lying about but radio has been incorporated into my iPads duties now as well.

Hi Pinch, this is what I used to research vintage tuners - it’s a superb source of info … www.fmtunerinfo.com/index.htmlIt took me a little while to find what I wanted but there are some nice ones out there. Ebay is worth a look - take a look at the vintage Pioneers for starters … This German site always has some decent retro tuners. Check out this Marantz - the tuning wheel and radar like screen look fab … Shame they want 950 Euros for it!! www.springair.de/detail/index/sArticle/72299

No, I've had mine for a long, long time but I remember one of the times that yours changed hands, it pissed off a grumpy Dalek with an over-enthusiastic sense of entitlement!

Nope, you are not cured Maybe to help you I should take one off your hands even though I am generally happy listening to a basic FM radio in the kitchen. Who knows, time to reconsider, don't you think?

Seconded - I use the same tuner, fed by an FM antenna on the roof. Absolutely brilliant.

Do tuners still hold their value? In some ways I wish I hadn't sold my Hitachi FT5500-II, but then again the digital radio feed from Sky isn't bad at all.

When all the news about FM in the UK was doom and gloom because of the proposed shut-down, the prices reached rock bottom and I kept telling people that there had never been a better time to buy a good quality tuner. I've not really been looking lately as I'm so easily drawn into buying the bloomin' things, but I would imagine that they're fetching a little more now than they were say 3 or 4 years ago. Your Hitachi is a pretty cheap buy
