Hola!!!
My name is Dave and I hail from Northamptonshire. Been into music and hifi in some form or another since I was a nipper many moons ago. I currently run an eclectic mix of equipment which includes a Technics SL5 linear tracking TT, an Arcam CD72 CDP, a Sony MDS JE480 minidisk player/recorder and a Rega DAC, all of which run through a BTE passive pre-amp and QUAD 306 power amp into a pair of ART Skibo speakers. There are also a pair of classic B&W DM2's lurking on the landing which I will get around to fixing one day. Oh I almost forgot, these days most of my listening is done via a self-built PC which used to be my gaming rig years ago. It's pretty quiet for a gaming rig although it's a substantial beastie and as such it lives on the floor sat on a wee wheeled stand.
My musical tastes range very wide. I like classical, pop, rock, metal, 70's & 80's synth stuff, folk, MoR, prog, you name it... I do draw the line at Elvis though (my apologies to Elvis lovers), not really my cup of tea...
I look forward to participating on The Audio Standard and I note some familiar faces from a certain daftee's forum have taken up residence already, including Le Grande Fromage hisself

Hello Dave, fancy seeing you here? I see you're still voyaging into whorls and other interstellar events! Welcome to TAS and thanks for introducing yourself. I thought I remembered that you had given up on the Skibos, but in best Hillary tradition I must have 'misremembered'. We'll have to work on the Elvis

Hi Dave, Long time, no see - a bit of a surprise, in fact. Hopefully you and yours are well?
We hope you like what we've done with the place. Cheers for now.

Once I've got my bum into gear I have a new Coles which needs fitting to one of the DM2's. The Skibo's deliver a very different presentation to the DM2's and over time I have come to appreciate their strengths. Though not quite as 'airy' as the DM2's they are tight and punchy and sound particularly good pounding out Jean Michel Jarre for example. I'm currently listening to Kraftwerk's Autobahn and they are really doing the biz with this album.
As for the avatar - most of my good ones live on my lappy (I'm currently using the 'beastie'). T'was the first one which came to hand and is a graphic representation of the inside of Arthur Clarke's Rama

Ah Rendezvous with Rama, a particularly good Clarke that one. Not maybe as good as The Songs of Distant Earth, though.

I'm ashamed to admit I've not read 'Songs' Martin, one which seems to have passed me by. I shall rectify this tragic state of affairs forthwith and order a copy for my Kindle if available...

Well, for several reasons, Dave. Firstly, it's a surprise that anyone at all is finding us, as we haven't made any effort to tell people we're here - the launch is supposed to come later! Secondly, you seemed to have disappeared with no trace or warning from AoS, so I thought perhaps you might have had enough of forum life or something.

It's maybe a case of other forums become boring so a change is as good as a rest I say!

I'll mention one thing Chris - Cable threads - Nuff said?
As for TAS, I received a tip off from GCHQ...
