Hello
I'm Steve and I'm an Audioholic.
I blame my grandfather. When I was 7 he gave me a wind up box record player and 6 reassuringly heavy 78rpm enchanting discs. I can only remember Johnny Ray with Look Homeward Angel and Tommy Steele Rock with the Caveman. A Christmas present at 11 of a box 45/33 player saw me from first record purchase of Humperdink's Let the Heartache Begin (Mum approval) through to Alice Cooper (Mum confiscated the paper knickers from Schools Out). Unfortunately these are the dizzy heights that I reached with vinyl.
I played drums for 15 years yet continued a lifetime obsession with music and replay despite that handicap. I've never had really expensive equipment but I learnt a lot by getting the most I could from modest gear and it remains a driving force and gives me great satisfaction to achieve a performance that's disproportionate to the cost. I now make Horny loudspeakers as a living! My priorities are connection to the passion and feeling in a musician's performance and to expose the character of different instruments.
I have a modest set up using an HD/ Oppo103 file source and plenty of lovely warm valves. I believe in the importance of application and system tuning as much as ultimate component performance. Looking forward to some interesting discussion - learning all de time ;-)

Hey Steve, great to see you here at last. Interesting that you play drums, so does TonyC. More power to you mate, perhaps you should pop over again for another session?

Hi Steve
Welcome to TAS
Your reputation precedes you - and you have an email from me, sort of carrying on our conversation from another place

Welcome from me too Steve - I'd love to know about the valve gear that you favour, being a bit of a toobs man myself ...

Thanks guys. Needing to brush up on my posting skills, been awhile since I lost the will to forum. Forage? Frumicate? Here's a few of my toys Jules... Brass Dac made by Duncan. Love the way this sends harmonics spinning off into the room. Mapletree Preamp. Probably the opposite to an LDR, sounds as vintage as it looks by design. Megahertz Lilliput 2.5w SET. A really musical Stormtrooper. Dared DV-6C. My workhorse. 65w per 6 channel Class D with Triode Pre. A proverbial wolf... I'll start a system thread to post photos in future.

I lost the will to forum. Forage? Frumicate? Excellent - we need a verb meaning "to forum" in our lexicon!
