What does the forum reckon would be a fair price to ask for a very good condition Sgt Peppers?

Does it still have the paper cutouts, Chris? That has a big influence on what a realistic price might be. I have mixed feeling about the current prices of used records, as I think the existence of Ebay has inflated them beyond reason. I would recommend that you take a look at Popsike.com, which tracks record prices. Here's the search for Sgt. Pepper.

Lot more than I expected
I've had mine from shortly after it came out. Bits of card in very good nick, cover pretty good. LP rather well used

Obviously, one in immaculate condition is going to fetch a premium price but the thing that annoys me about the prices is that this album is not rare - it's the third best selling record in history - there are 5.1 million copies of it in the UK alone! Worldwide, there are more than 30 million copies and that is not reflected in what it fetches. That said, as I already have a copy, I hope you are able take whoever buys it to the cleaners Chris! Good luck with the sale.

Depend on which pressing, condition, stereo or mono etc. Plus what do you call vg condition. Record collector grade ? = it's not very good.
If it's a first press (mono or stereo) or one box stereo in top condition put it on Ebay as auction and it will fetch what people are prepared to pay. Monos fetch more but personally I don't see the point with the superb new AAA mono pressing now available. There is also an 82 mono reissue which is quite valuable - which reminds me to put mine up for sale.

I have both and I prefer the mono. There are some odd things about certain passages of the stereo version. However, 'Day in the Life' is far better in stereo!
