I'd like to echo Martin's words and thank every single member of TAS for their contributions and support throughout our first six months or so. Here's hoping that next year is as good for you as you've made the second half of 2014 for me. Cheers and all the best. Chris

A happy new year too you all.
For those who don't read AOS, I have just posted this little tale of my most enjoyable evening.
Mad hatter's tea party.
For the first time in twenty years, we went to a New Year's party last night. We thought it might be a good time to rejoin the human race and be a bit more sociable. Whilst we enjoy small gatherings and entertaining with friends, big groups have never been our thing.
It wasn't exactly huge last night, around twenty people.
I can't remember having spent such a depressing evening. We were all asked to take some food and I spent the afternoon slow cooking some garlic in butter for the Steadman special bread. I printed the usual health warning about Vampyres beware and orf we jollywelled.
Walked in to a crowd standing around yacking in temperatures that were at least 10 degrees too high with the music on about 50 decibels too loud. The sub was so dominant that nothing else could be heard. To make matters worse, Joe Bonnamassa was playing which was enough to have me turning straight round anyway. A large (read pint) glass of quite decent red was thrust into our hands and we tried to find a spot where we could actually hear anyone without them resorting to a megaphone.
Then the food started. I felt I was in Alice or that scene from the Magical Mystery Tour where Lennon has a fat suit on and is fed spaghetti until he bursts. Ronnie was the only woman there under a size 18 (10 actually) and most of the men could rest a Kardashian (spelling?) on their stomachs. Watching the food being shovelled into vast caves quite put me off my food. On top of that my garlic bread was buggered up as the hostess ignored my instructions to give a ten minute burst of high temperature to crisp it up and just melt the butter properly and gave it about 20 minutes on low power. Completely buggered and soggy. The final straw
We struggled on until 11 o'clock but the thought of hanging around until the witching hour was just too much and we made our excuses. These are all people we know and enjoy being with in couples but en masse it was an overwhelmingly horrible experience.
Maybe we are too used to our own company now and we are the ones out of step but is this is an example of how to enjoy yourself, I'm gonna stay miserable.

Quite right Nodrog, New Year is a pile of shit. I went to the Edinburgh Hogmanay street party last year (£20!) and it was absolute bollocks. It was like being admitted to a concentration camp, metal fences, security everywhere, nothing to drink and nothing to see apart from a lot of bemused foreigners and a litter-strewn Princes Street, what a pile of shite.

That made me laugh, Gordon. Commiserations! We tend to avoid those gatherings, had a glass of port to toast the year in. Saw the London fireworks display on TV, the music was an appalling agglomeration of crap. Whoever organised it should have all music taken away from them for a year.

I watched the Queen concert on BBC 1 I forget the name of the new front man, even though he can sing he ruined the concert for me. Interesting fact that although the guy may heave a 'better' voice there was no energy in his performance. It sounded very manufactured to me, just goes to show how good Freddie was. A good evening all the same

Happy New Year to everyone on TAS.
Getting up just before 5am yesterday we were in bed early.
Woken at midnight by fireworks, loud, next door ? No about half a mile away we assume at the polo club No problem, will all be over in a couple on minutes, nope went on for a very long time. Must have cost £1000s
I went back to sleep. The other half was kept away by thumping music from the same polo club we assume until around 3am
I won't go to dos like Gordon went to, not for me. If I went accidentally I'd leave
This year will be different for a lot of us. Stepdaughter about to give birth and other things in the pipeline

Went to bed at 11:50 because I couldn't stand the bloody heat anymore! Turned on the aircon in the bedroom and went to sleep. Already broken most of my new year's resolutions... Hope everybody else had a great time though!
