Let's see if she can convince me about Stravinsky and Bartok. Not been a fan of these previously.

Some great pics from Perseverance on Mars as it preps up to start exploring. www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-56238018 And a view of the Perseverance rover from orbit, showing the rover and blast marks from the landing rockets ...

George Crumb and Anton Webern are more her forte imo. I quite enjoyed the Prokofiev sonata as well.

Having another go at Previn's violin concerto. Nope, it still sounds like a series of unrelated and not very interesting musical gestures to me. The Bernstein piece is better. But not hugely. I can understand why they paired these works together, quite similar in feel.

... and yes it's ASM. I find her playing enjoyable away from the core violin repertoire. I suspect that she enjoys it more as well! Did you listen to her Club Album from a couple of years ago? I found it a very refreshing diversion indeed. Surprised she hasn't done a follow-up. Ah, musical lollipops. No, not that keen. Enjoying this Lutoslawski atm. I generally find her playing 'dutiful' rather than inspired. I find that works better for me in contemporary not very tonal music.

I've played it a few times now, and keep getting drawn back to it.
It's nicely varied, from solo violin to full orchestra. And I do often find Penderecki's music interesting.
So, yes, I guess I like it!

French composers... Some works by Berlioz, Ravel, Faure, Satie. No problem.
Poulenc might take until the "next turn of the wheel".
On to Buchbinder Beethoven (neither of whom was French)

As Mike says. .... The silences The really, seriously loud bits Beautiful melodies Discordant dissonances Extended overwhelming crescendos Ineffably serene diminuendos The purity of a solo vocal The unstoppable power of a mighty chorus And everything in between.

I'm having another crack at Prokofiev. If Sviatoslav Richter can't manage to convince me in the piano sonatas then nobody can.
Persistence is the key for me, here. I'll be darned if the danged things aren't starting to grow on me!

I like the music, and would be pleased to hear more of it. But most of the overdubbed noises and sounds are a big turn off for me - trendy but irritating, distracting and pointless.
4 for the music 1 for the misguided production. So a generous 3 from me, I doubt I'd come back tbh because of the idiot noises they've added on. They should have more faith in the music.
Edit : Oops, I made a small (actually, gigantic) but important error here, see my later post!!

Opera - there's only 3 I enjoy. Philip Glass's Akhnaten Handel's Xerxes and to a lesser extent Mozart Magic Flute
I suspect my views are very similar to Martin's, with the corollary that I love (most of) Gilbert and Sullivan operettas!
