Maybe some acronym, Supercap Power Storage Stabilizer , SPSS.

The people arguing for what should and should not be possible, counterproductive, they are missing out. It is of paramount importance to experience the things that draw controversy, no way to get a clear decision just by discussing.
I for one feel stupid every time, 150£ on a powercord, gods Im an idiot. Cant possibly do anything, going to prove it doesn't, hey presto, worth it. Fuses the same, cant work, fine I will try it, well damn, one of the better upgrades at a tiny price. Even happier with the PADIS(furutech) fuses just one day later, not subtle at all. Lots of air, dynamics improved, vocal focus, a very different sounding system compared to 2 days ago. Anyone with a SEG should spend 20£ on a PADIS fuse just to prove this fuse waffle wrong.
The "crazies" get more of the good stuff in the end. Fail your way forward is the saying, pretty much all of the "woo" at TAS has worked well.

Just installed the PADIS fuses in amp and SEG. Some improvement in the amp but the SEG, major change. Right now, clarity, larger/deeper sound stage and some changes in bass response/tone that is just different. I expect this to be somewhat like a power cord, will stabilize and even out in a few days.

Re-read some of the older threads covering BRs, must say, intrigued, especially the Caiman lift story from the meet. Well, its going on the list, so 3 for the SEG , 2 for Pi and I suppose 4 for the amp. How come no one puts vibration absorption in the middle of the chassis, or perhaps you do, I imagine it would be the part that can most freely keep alive resonances, essentially flapping in the wind, maybe there is something I am missing?

How would you guys compare sorbothane to ravioli pads? You all seem to really like them.

You could try my solution, buy a cork dining mat from IKEA, cut to appropriate squares, place under equipment (maybe 5 stacks), with a cherry on top, in my case a 2.5kg weight plate. Will have to do until I get around to replacing them with sorbothane spheres and sexy granite/marble slabs. Yes this does help improve the sound in my setup, try it and see, not much to lose by going with the budget approach first. You like it, explore the more costly options. farm5.staticflickr.com/4769/38793847565_0c51459ffc_b.jpg

Put 3 ferrites on an extension cord going to all the noisy bits, phone charger, laptop, printer etc. Also on DC leads to DAC and Pi, havent A/B them yet, certainly hasn't damaged the sound in any way. On the other hand, bought an I-Fi AC purifier, sadly squashes dynamics and reduces air noticeably. Not even on an extension cord on the last plug did it work out. Maybe it doesn't play nice with the NC500 SMPS. Apparently cant return since it had pretty plastic on the pretty box therefor not resell-able. Anyone wanna buy a schuko I-Fi purifier . Probably going to plug it next to the ethernet switch or something noisy in the house.

Hey now, there are plenty of dead people leading perfectly respectable lives in Ankh-Morpork. Getting up in the morning feeling fine, having me a cup o coffee, open the door, take a whiff of that misty air and and look at the rising sun. Oh and put on an easy going tune, simple is good.

Fantastic, thank you Martin. Plugged in my DIY Oyaide Tunami V2+ElecAudio power cable yesterday, promising. One ear bunged up and can still tell there is a clear benefit. Will be interesting to hear a fuse upgrade.

Well I took the plunge (cheaply) ordered some PADIS fuses for my power amp and the SEG. The internal fuse for the SEG, I do hope its a 5mmx20mm, didnt even think about it before ordering.

Are they magical , probably not but something is going on. I have heard nice improvements just sticking them on DC leads. Here is my bit of speculation. Mind you, I am not a electronics genius, far from it, I do however find the effect I have heard interesting. My guess is they can handle sustained peak current draws better than an electrolytic. Maybe its just because they usually are higher capacitance in same size package, being able to provide superior decoupling with less space used. Perhaps they improve the performance of an average PSU since the load over time is smoothed out. This patent talks about increased resistive losses and bursts of ripple with peak current draw in standard PSU/battery and how a supercap smooths that out. In my mind that means savings and a better performing PSU. This probably is basic design that I am trying to wrap my head around. Now I really wish I was able to attend ASBO and hear what Stan had to say. I am sure he has made some smart minimalist design choices. If this unit gets even close to the performance of a 300£ LPSU for say ~100£, that would be a raging success.

It doesn't sweat up-sampling at all, checked it when I first got it, uses maybe 10% of processor power total.

stanleyb Just got my SEG supercapped yesterday, thanks Stan. 0h Immediately after plugging it in, reasonably pleased. The bass already has more punch than the RDAC or the Gumby. Certainly more defined bass, I have had room mode troubles causing a boom at times, reduced with the SEG. AC/DC- Thunderstruck, them drums, makes me smile, good ole THWACK. Vocals are more focused than RDAC, not quite up to Gumbys cohesive silkyness at this point. The expansive soundstage makes up for it, effortlessly places intruments way beyond the usual sphere. Actually, there is no sphere. Just a hint softer and smoother than RDAC while beating it in transparency. Will be interesting to see how this develops. 6h It is opening up nicely, the slight softness is fading, rather amazed at the imaging. Dido- The day we went to war, the background strings are up on the side walls, crazy. No idea if its accurate, but damn, I like it. Al Di Meola - Poema Valsado, natural and fluid, I find myself just listening and enjoying. 24h Well hot damn, there is a hint of addictive sweetness emerging. What i heard as muted or slightly soft mids and highs has morphed into something wonderful. This is something different, I find myself not caring about the tech. I dont even know what DAC chip is in this, its happiness inducing and just fun to listen to. Sound illusion splendor, usually I am analyzing, not this time. Is it realistic, accurate, top of the line tech and so forth, frankly my dear I do not give a damn. In this case I am overjoyed at the price vs enjoyment ratio. I haven't even added a better power cable or a Tokin cap array yet. Comparing the Gumby to the SEG, it is something like driving a dignitaries armored Bentley vs a nimble upbeat sportster. Gumby creates a smaller more solid image, In a bright airy system it would do wonders. I will post more after giving the SEG a day or 3 to limber up, so far, this is the sound for me.

Once things are steady going, perhaps there might be a possibility for other voltages, like the Pi 5v, hint hint.
I cant see why this wouldn't be a marvel for most any externally fed DC device. If not for sound quality then stability, I had frequent freezes with the Pi-Digione before I sorted the power out, rock solid since.

Excellent write-up, excited to see the insides and its resident black magic bits one day. Looks like one will be able to feed the supercap box with DC-DC boost from battery. Hurry Stan Hurry, take my money

I have my doubts. Audiphonics I trust, random Ebay seller, not quite as much. Also the word China adds to that :-)
