Thanks Martin, I must be doing something wrong. The volumio IP address is 192.168.1.110.
I put this into Terminal and it says : "command not recognised."
I do not get a login or password window
If I put the above into a browser Volumio opens up again and I put in all the details and the response is:" No Wireless Interface Present".
Much impressed with your help; apologies etc...

Thanks Martin,
The BT HomeHub4 reports 'seeing' Volumio by ethernet but not by wireless.
PuTTY is Windows only I believe? I run Macs although I can run Windows7 on two of them.
Perhaps it is the dongle after all. No lights are visible on the thing when plugged in, (If it has any ) I've even plugged it into the iMac - but still it is not recognised.
Thanks again.

Newbie here ..about to ask some silly questions...
I have the PI +IQAudio up and running using ethernet. I have just bought an approved wi-fi dongle and despite following Martin T's excellent instructions just cannot get it to be recognised. I've rebooted several times, used different usb ports, disconnected the ethernet and rebooted ...all to no avail. I need to go wireless as I've ordered a NAS which I believe needs to be connected by ethernet for best results.
I've googled the 'issue' and although there are several solutions offered to others they all involve typing in code. At present my system is 'headless'.
However, just to try - I plugged in an hdmi cable + keyboard to my TV. Volumio crashed. Am I right that Volumio does not contain an OS? If so, do I have to squeeze an OS such as Raspian onto the same micro-SD card?
Any help gratefully received. One small possibility is that it's the dongle of course - but I somehow doubt it. Thanks, Richard.

So who has the oldest and regularly in use component that hasn't been recapped? As previously stated I have a Sugden A21a amp - never recapped. It was made in Jan 2002. Bw Richard.

Patrick of Sugdens was also rather scathing about audiophile mains plugs and leads and about the UK Hi-Fi press (with a few exceptions).
They apparently have a flourishing business but nearly all equipment is now for export only as the aforementioned UK press is 'too political'.

Slightly off-topic I know...
Last year I took my 'old' Sugden A21a to Sugden's for a service. I asked the headman (Patrick) about recapping. He laughed out loud and said, yes, he could do them, but it would be a complete waste of time and money. Capacitors were meant to swell and buckle a little under use; this recapping malarkey was exactly that.
I turn the Sugden off when not in use (unless I wish to heat that corner of the room) as it's Class A.

Hi, I' ve just popped down to the Pimoroni store which luckily is only 20 mins away by car.
I bought the Raspberry Pi and Ninja coupe case and a 2 amp PS. Now I have to wait for theIQAudio DAC...which interestingly will soon be stocked by Pimoroni
Because I like messing about I am downloading Volumio and the NOOBS software containing the OS.. Can I have both on the micro SD card without mucking things up?

Guys...what's the latest state-of-play regarding battery recommendations for the Caiman2? BW Richard In my case I recommend Anker Astro Pro2 2nd gen: www.ianker.com/product/79AN7906-BA. Works like a charm on my side and last very long time without recharging. It's on order. bW richard

Thanks Martin, I'm not sure I understand all the technical details here.
If the Rega is running AB than I for certain cannot hear any x-over distortion.
The Sugden (25w + 25W) certainly exudes much more heat than the Rega (50W + 50W).
Thanks, Richard
PS the 2 phono stages now compared. If anyone is interested, I can post a short review... but where?

My guess is the Sugden and Rega are going to sound quite different. Martin, surprisingly not! I hope it's OK to cut and paste a report I made in another forum: The story so far: I have a Linn Mimik2 cd player with a BNC output. I wanted to by-pass the Linn’s DAC and use a Caiman2 DAC instead. AoS members, as usual have been very helpful and have prompted me in the right direction for a suitable lead, which I bought. (I later found I had one in an old cupboard!). So this is my report: The waters are somewhat muddied by: I replaced the wall socket with a MK unswitched one (The 2 neutral wires were loose in the old socket), and I cleaned all the prongs on the mains plugs. I bought a 2nd hand Rega Brio-R so was keen to see if the SQ was better/different cf my Sugden A21A amp. I should also add that Stan’s firmware upgrade came this morning so yet another variable into the mix! Using the Sugden: At first I could detect no difference between the normal CD output (via the Linn DAC) and Stan’s. This says, I believe, a lot for the oldish (1995) design of the Mimik2. Slowly and gradually I could hear that female vocals were more open and less sibilant. Violin strings too showed a small improvement. I could detect no differences in the bass. Surprisingly, when I used the Rega amp I could detect NO difference at all between the two sources. Make of that what you will… I repeated the experiment this morning (no alcohol) and came to exactly the same conclusions. I must tell a tale against myself here… I plugged in Stan’s new RiSC chip and sat back and listened…yep…it was all that people had said… better, more affirmative bass, less of a veil etc etc. It was after 20 mins or so that I realised that the sound wasn’t going through the Caiman2 at all but from the Linn to the Rega! What I was hearing was the wishful thinking/others’ reports/placebo effect. When I did sort myself out , as I said above, I could not discern any differences between the CD output and the BNC to the Caiman2 and then to the Rega. So, back to the Sugden… (Would Stan’s upgrade make an impact?) Yes; Stan’s DAC was slightly more open and transparent; not ‘night-and-day’ by any manner of means, but an improvement. Using high-def files streamed to the Squeezebox Touch I was able, again, to hear that Stan’s firmware upgrade made a difference - with better definition of instruments and vocals. (BTW I should add here that I’m 67 years old so my HF must be compromised somewhat). Tonight’s experiments (my wife is away for the weekend), will involve comparing the phono inputs on the two amps. The one in the Sugden (both MM and MC) is not given the plaudits it deserves. (Patrick of Sugdens told me this(!)…and I agree.) However, this is outside the title of this thread so I will stop here. I expected there to be significant differences in SQ between the two amps. I found this not to be so. Did I read somewhere that the Rega has some sort of quasi Class A output stage? Thanks for anyone’s interest and help. BW Richard

Hello Richard and welcome to TAS! Those Living Voice speakers are interestingly different, bet they're efficient. Thanks everyone. Yes, Martin, the LV speakers are very efficient...just as well really as the Sugden is only 25 Watts RMS per channel. Later on tonight I plan to compare the amp with a Rega Brio-R. BW Richard.
