Now sold.
Please can the mods delete the whole thread? - I don't seem to be able to delete it myself.
I don't find this site (hosted by ProBoard?) particularly intuitive - either to delete or to add pictures. Thanks

The two Boss units and galvanic isolator were used with Rpi units I seem to recall. (Not both at the same time - obviously!) The Boss sells new at approx £60 and the isolator about £40. I'm asking half that (ie £30 for each of the Boss units and £20 for the isolator. ONO) Please be very specific about which of the two Boss units you need; please look very carefully at the pictures. I also have a perspex shield for the Rpi, Boss and Isolator. I think all the screws and spacers are there. £8 ono. Thanks I cannot for the life of me add my photos .Please PM me and I'll send them by Email or whatever... ibb.co/7SV44D5ibb.co/jgRGWXkibb.co/HDQ5dnKibb.co/89WcCLDibb.co/mB03y3jibb.co/gwkhQBmibb.co/f1pCgs6Thanks; apologies for the mess. I've sold it now so will try to delete. R

..."with Intelligent Diagnostics". In mint condition and very little used. Does it work? Yes, but to my 75yr-old ears and using a valve amp with Living Voice speakers the effect is marginal as I already have a Pure AV mains cleaner in the system. In my second system ( Rega Brio + QAcousticsspeakers about 2 feet from my ears), the effect is more noticeable . They retail for about £99 these days. I'm just asking £65 to include P+P. A Bargain! Thanks, Richard. Pics: ibb.co/cNmrhVkibb.co/58zmt1b

Double disc caddy arrived so plugged both old NAS WD 3TB drives into it. Neither Mac or Win11 could read them (Synology have their own OS and formatting system), so I wiped both drives and reformatted them. Both seem to work, but only the drive in slot 'A' is recognised. Loading music onto this disc is easy and to clone that disc manually (there's no auto function), one has to insert the other drive into slot 'B' and press button on the back of the caddy. This seems to work OK, but this drive won't be read unless it's in slot 'A'.
All-in-all, a much less expensive way of having a pseudo NAS RAID system, but if I started over again, I doubt that I would beed it given the relative cheapness and ease of use of SSD drives.
Now to get Volumio to read it...

Yes, they were.
I think one disc has failed (apart from the enclosure electronics), so I'm hopeful I can rescue one disc and clone it.
Whether it's now really needed is another question as I think all songs, docs and photos are backed up several times with iCloud + Time Machine + a SSD!

Synology DS215J
I have the above NAS with 2 HDs mainly storing my music, photos and documents.
I have a M2 MacMini, an Intel Mac Pro laptop and an older iMac running a previous OS.
I have not used the NAS for some time, but when I tried to access it using DS Assistant/Synology it would not connect with any of the 3 computers.
I have altered ethernet cables, connected (ethernet) directly to the Mac(s), re-booted the NAS, all to no avail; thus I suspect a hardware failure.
I have several questions:
As I have followed all that Synology have suggested on their website, am I justified in thinking it’s a hardware failure?
Any suggestions for a (better and cheaper) replacement?
I now wonder if I need a NAS at all! . All my music, photos and docs are stored on Time Machine + SSD ‘discs’ and iCloud anyway
If that’s the case (and I believe it could be so), what can I do with the two WD HDs in the NAS unit?
Thanks,
Yours,
Richard

Yes Martin, "He was impessed by the DAC and (especially) the LV speakers (albeit 15 years old!). One of his friends said.. ."LV speakers -good - but don't you need more bass?"
I don't think so ...but...

I have just updated by late 2017 iMac to a M2 MacMini Pro. I stream using apple music to a Topping DAC and Rega amp in my study and via a WiimPro streamer in my main room (RME DAC (excellent!) and valve amp to Living Voice speakers. (I also have a Wiim Mini).
I love the sound. At first I had problems with the two Wiim units losing connection after a short break in the music. All this seems to have cleared now.
Apple music now encompasses Classical Music and I can download and stream at higher bit rates than 'red book'.
My music collection is stored on an external SSD (Samsung T5). All recommended.
I have a friend staying with me who is a music buff (he has a Naim system) and is near to tears over the (my) sound!
What more can I say?

Yes, the app is very good. Radio Paradise is only a few clicks away!
The internal DAC (the same I believe in both units) is 'average'. For my kitchen audio it doesn't matter as it's not hi-fi, but the RME DAC in my main room lifts it (the 'Pro' version) to another level. I have a spare LPS somewhere which could replace the provided unit on the 'Pro unit. I'll try that next week.
(The 'Mini' version doesn't come with a PS -one is meant to use one's own old 5V 2A 'phone charger.)

I have both units. Before I had some old Apple airport units linked to an Apple Extreme router. This had worked well for years but recently I had suffered dropouts and the difficulty of re-joining the network (The major router is a BT one).
My first replacement was the Wiim Mini linked to a non-hi-fi unit in the kitchen. This suffered similar dropouts and have returned it this morning - but for a replacement. I believe the unit to be faulty.
The Pro version I received two days ago. It has behaved almost faultlessly and is linked via ethernet to my main system. I use spdif to my wonderful RME DAC. It's excellent, and can stream hi-def audio from my M2 MacMini Pro.
Recommended.
I do also endorse others who recommend not only the excellent free app to go with these units but also the forums and feedback from Wiim (they must have someone who works 24/7). They really do seem helpful and welcome feedback.
All this could change of course if my Wiim Mini suffers the same dropouts as the previous item!
Compared with other items from other manufscturers - it's a steal!

I'm still using V2. Does V3 now sound better than V2?
Thanks.

Update: A RPi 4b using Volumio (and the USB- out setting there) via USB to the RME DAC now works just fine. Quite easy really (in the end)! (Volumio just needs settings/usb output)
The Rpi4 + RME DACs DOES (imho) sound a little better than the Rpi3+AlloBoss.;(better 'clarity' definition and separation - but marginal to my 73 yr old ears). Whether it's worth the extra money I don't know. Certainly the advantage of adjusting so many variables (inc room variabilities) AND an excellent h'phone amp AND preamp does mean the extra cost isn't a great as it first seems. Nice also to know that my inputs to the RME are 'bitperfect'.
I think I'll soon be selling the RPI3 + Allo Boss, the Caiman SEG + Dorado and Schiit preamp. Pictures already taken; soon to advertise!
Thanks.

Thanks; very interesting.
My new DAC (still to arrive) is the RME ADI DAC 2 FS and on the RPE users' forum the consensus there is that it's perfectly OK to use the USB port on the Rpi (3) and no HAT is necessary.
However, it also seems that the consensus is the the Rpi4B is a better bet as the ethernet and USB signals are now better isolated and thus the USB output is much 'cleaner' and that any other 'noise' can be cleaned-up by the RME ADI DAC 2 FS.
I'll do a comparison with the Rpi3B and Allo Boss later.
Thanks again.

Thanks guys; much as I expected, but good to get as many recommendations for a suitable HAT.
