Next week I am attending an epic trilogy of concerts.
Monday at Wigmore Hall, Tuesday at the Barbican and Wednesday at Symphony Hall, Birmingham. I think this is a first for me!

At last!
Tim Smith used to be the singer & songwriter with Midlake but left in 2012 - ever since then fans have been patiently waiting for solo material. 11 years later we are duly rewarded with this wonderful new single and an album to follow. Difficult to categorise but if you enjoy elements of prog / folk / classic rock do give this a listen.

Most disturbing.
The only place one should appear shirtless is on a beach or in your own home, IMO.

I have a stereo William Byrd Mass for Five Voices on Argo sitting in my collection. Wonderful recording but most on Argo are quite superb.

Having digested this lovely starter, what is the next course in the 2nd Vienna School road to enlightenment?

As my son heads off to Uni next week the Amazon dude had lots of parcels for me today, all of which he manfully brought up to my flat with a smile. I gave him a record number of compliments on the Amazon app!

I used to have this kind of setup, with the TV between the speakers. When listening, try putting a small blanket or any absorbent material over the TV screen to see if the stereo imaging improves. I found the stereo image improved but I didn't enjoy the TV picture quite as much ...

I *think* that there is an argument that on phones etc you need a special media playing app to bypass the android system mangling the bit stream.. the old bit perfect problem.... "USB audio player pro Hi Sean, wow that's an interesting idea, I've never heard mention of this before. To be honest, the only bit of kit that made my phone's output sound any different is my old Chord Mojo. I have a new phone arriving soon so must do some experimenting with that. Cheers.

Thanks for the recommendation. Actually I was so disappointed with the Moondrop dongle that I rather forgot about sourcing an alternative. Listening last night on my headphones reminded me that I should try and get a rather more "high fidelity" set up without throwing lots of money at it so I will have a look at Fiio.

Wow. What an exceptional performance by the Prazak Quartet. Such verve and intensity they bring to this irresistible Gothic melodrama. It's as if their lives truly depended on it, playing right on the edge of their wits.
Only a very basic headphones set up for me this evening, I look forward to unleashing it on the main system in the future as I'll be keeping the album in my collection for sure. Thank you Achim!

If you have any specific questions, I might be able to help as my (Greek) nephew has been working there for a while.
Very beautiful island that can get swamped by cruise visitors by all accounts. I'd be wary about going in peak season personally.

Really like the look of Afire, will keep an eye out for that thanks. It's very good Jules and I'd say you'd probably like it. I've seen all Petzold's films apart from Wolfsburg, there are 10 in total now.
Only just out at the cinema, but the type of film that might pop up on Film4 - it's not really a Netflix / Prime film . . . BFI or MUBI maybe?. Most likely a MUBI I'd say as they feature a lot of Petzold's work. Other one's to look out for would be Barbara, Yella, Phoenix . . . hmm, well, all of them really!
Barbara was the first one I saw of his and I've been hooked ever since.
Found four of his films on Amazon so added to watchlist, might watch one tonight.

If you're an Agatha Christie fan I can highly recommend Kenneth Branagh's Death on the Nile from 2022. So much better than 'Orient Express' this one makes the best of the uber stylish sets and locations. I am an Agatha Christie fan, currently wading my way through her books in chronological order. Managed 11 so far, only about 60 odd to go. However, you'd have to drag me kicking and screaming into a Kenneth Branagh Hercule Poirot film and hide any weapons on the way in too, as they'd be another murder to solve!
Oooohhhh, very harsh young Tim! Actually I wasn't expecting to enjoy it, but I did and am really looking forward to seeing his latest effort - A Haunting in Venice. Looks much darker than the first two of course.

Many thanks for this Achim.
I only know VN as an orchestral work so I will look forward to trying your suggestion tonight. We can then move up a gear in difficulty, bring on the atonalism!
For the Spotifyers amongst us ...

How come you didn't go with the Redmi Note 11 in the end; they're on eBay (new) for £140 - £150? Because the manufacturer didn't have stock for weeks and I prefer to buy "direct" rather than a 3rd party. Poco is the same company as Redmi of course and they share similar design. The Poco has a marginally better spec on paper than the Redmi.

Well this is the "budget" Android thread!
My phone is hanging on by a thread so ordered a Poco M5S in a Mi flash sale today.
£209 down to £149, plus an extra tenner with voucher = £139 delivered.
Spec is great for my needs and has AMOLED screen, headphone jack and dual speakers.
