I fitted a fairly expensive NEF induction hob once - easy to clean etc but I found the buzzing (I assume from a transformer or the control system) really annoying!

… One wonders what an even better clock might achieve in this position but I'm not going there as this all came about from spare components I had lying around. An amazingly satisfying zero-cost upgrade. You know that you need to go there Martin! Cheers Bill

It looks like you really need another clock Martin, to feed the EtherRegen!

Wouldn’t the grounding box ‘ground voltage’ float to whatever the QP-1 ground voltage was at?

If it’s PME there’s probably a notice at your electric meter. If not PME you will probably have an earth wire (green/yellow - if modern, just bare wire if old) to an earth spike in the ground outside.
It you are NOT on a PME setup you could probably improve the earthing of your property with additional earth spikes. Doing this can be dangerous if you’re on a PME system so you should get an electrician’s advice before going down this route.

Hi John
Do you know whether you are on a PME or TT earthing setup?
Cheers. Bill

Following in Martin's wake is a good place to be Yes Mike - it’s great having someone doing the research! Cheers Bill

Hah - no chance! The BG7TBL is now available if you're interested? Great for experimentation and getting into what an external clock can do. Hi Martin Yes, certainly - also interested in relevant cables, filters etc. I think you’ve got a PM from a few weeks ago. Thanks Bill

Hi Martin - have you got a handle on how much benefit the 2nd clock (King I think) on the EtherRegen brings vs just the expensive one on the Mutec? Yes, see my post here. The more I listen, the more I can hear how powerfully both clocks and both reclockers are doing the 'clean up' job on the incoming data stream, providing ultra-clean input into the DAC. It's definitely better than running just one. The wealth of detail while delivering music in such a smooth and captivating way is giving me sleepless nights! That’s a pity - I was hoping you’d sell me the King at a good discount!! Cheers Bill

I'm so close to the sound I've always wanted that I'm left with only Tiny Tweaks™ The first is that I have a set of four very pricy Vishay metal foil trimpots to replace the cermet ones in the LKS DAC. They are in the audio feedback path so it's worth doing since I've already replaced the main I/V resistors with Vishays to great effect, so I'm going for consistency. The second is just a cable experiment. I've been so impressed with my Japanese Canare LV-77S clock cables that I thought I'd try their top of the line DA-206 AES cable. No-one sells it made up in the UK, so I've ordered a 30cm cable using the Canare with Neutrik gold pin XLRs from Ghent, who have a great reputation for cables. It'll have to go some to beat my Wireworld Platinum Eclipse 8 AES cable, but then I like discovering giant killers. Hi Martin - what are your thoughts on the Ghent Audio DA-206 AES XLR cable? Cheers Bill

Updated again. Hi Martin Does sharing a power supply between the EtherRegen and the downstream clock have any impact on the EtherRegen moat, or is this protected by the RJ45 cable out of the EtherRegen and isolation in the power supply? Cheers Bill

I've just taken delivery of this beast of an AfterDark Constellation ethernet link cable especially made for the B side of EtherREGENs. It doesn't bend and it doesn't twist. Thank goodness the plug orientation is right for my EtherREGEN to ultraRendu connection. Hi Martin Does this cable provide continuity between the two Ethernet plugs, or are they individually isolated? Thanks. Bill

Were you breaking the moat by sharing a power supply between the ER and something downstream?
If your plans involve moving up the AfterDark chain, I could be interested in the one you’ve currently got!

That makes sense. Any idea what the noise figure is for the Mutec's internal clock? Have you tried the DG7TBL on the EtherRegen, with the AfterDark on the Mutec? Or can you use the Mutec clock out to feed the ER?
Do AfterDark do a clock with 2 'isolated' clock outputs?
I've not tried my Mutec (or ER) yet, but am I right in thinking that the ER clock input is on the output side of the ER - so the clock couldn’t share a power supply with the ER (as it would bridge the 'moat')?
Cheers. Bill

How do the clock noise figures compare?
Just to check, the clock is now only connected to the Mutec (and a grounding box)?

How big would you say is the step vs your earlier clock experience with the BG7TBL plus filters?

Hi Martin
What sort of price is this new master clock? (I’ve got a second had EtherRegen along with a second hand Mutec MC3 in the equipment store for trying out when I can finally get around to it).
Cheers. Bill
