Is that a Hifi Hangar pot I see, Roy? Do you know anythg about the pot they use? A mate is tempted to try one. It is & I was just looking for a reasonably priced passive pre to go with the A40s when this came up on ebay. Found a review - www.hifihangar.co.uk/hifi-choice-review.html (I assume they use the same pot in the 2 input version which is the one I've got)

Very smart looking system Roy, great amps. Thanks. They're sounding really good Rich, I'm very happy with them.

I like that chunky looking passive pre ... How do you find the A40s compared to your Quads? Only had the A40s for a couple of days so still experimenting but they compare very favourably with my Quads. You really wouldn't think they were only 40 watts, they're very capable units. The pre is by Hifi Hangar, got a used one off the bay for a good price.

Suffered from hay fever since a holiday to the Isle of Wight in about 1965 when I was six, could get Piriton over the counter then to control it and the doctor prescribed Histryl. I've gradually grown out of it (past a certain age you start understanding that rubbing your eyes just makes things worse) but recently noticed cats have started making me sneeze and make my eyes sore.

Earlier - Sea Bass & Chilli Couscous (quite healthy if I hadn't put butter in the Couscous)

How has the rest of the gear changed since the start of this thread Roy? It looks like you may have acquired a Krell pre amp and are now bi-amping with the Quads and some pro amps? Had the Krell pre and Crowns before I got the Croft pre & Quads. Was just experimenting with alternative amplification now that I've got space to 'play'. The Crowns are very 'up front' which sounds better with some material but can be fatiguing with other stuff. Prefer the Quads overall. Other change is I've now got room for two turntables, the QLA7, with an Ortofon red, uses the Croft pres phono stage while the Sony PS6750, with a Nagaoka MP10, uses an MF X-LP into the Croft.

Does that arrangement sound better, Roy? I'm thinking of side reflections. It's definitely a step up from the arrangement I had before but I'm still experimenting with speaker placement and bungs (the Tannoys have two ports on the back & come supplied with bungs. At the moment I've got one port 'bunged up') now that I've got so much more space and flexibility.

Got rid of the dining table and now have speakers firing down the room (and it gives me the ability to plumb two turntables in)

Nothing to stop you having another Martin. Yes, I thought it was a bargain Chris, they have a lot of interesting stock.

The KAV-250a has a good reputation, never heard one though. I'm sure it'll find it's way back into my system at some point, was looking to get another one to try them bridged.
