Off to see this tonight, again for one night only in Cineworld theatres - for sure on Blu-ray later though, for the non cinema-goers Close Encounters Of The Third Kind 4K Restoration
The version that is being rereleased theatrically is the final 1997 director's cut, which is a re-edit of the 1977 version as well as some elements from the 1980 special edition, although it omits scenes inside the mothership, which Spielberg introduced in the 1980 version but later decided were a mistake.

Now that, I'm afraid, was an utterly crap film in my book. Horses for courses...

It's one of those films I have never seen. No-one has ever said anything about it to me that has made me want to change that!

I'm surprised Martin doesn't like it, not so much you though Chris Now if we're talking crap, I'm pretty convinced I'm going to get that Tuesday night with Kingsman: Double Bill. The new film plus the first, neither of which I've seen before. My expectations are VERY low . . . yikes. You can't be a so called 'film buff' and just watch the good stuff!

Spielberg at his very best: Schindler's List: an utterly incredible and deeply affecting film. Duel: simple concept, brilliantly executed. Jaws: ditto. Spielberg at his worst: Close Encounters: sentimental sickly over-hyped toss. E.T: ditto.

You have to watch that for the truly wonderful Sophia Boutella! I haven't seen the second one.

I didn't know Sophia was in the first film, great stuff. She's in Atomic Blonde which I saw twice, a much better film than I expected it to be I'm still expecting Kingsman to be crap though! Did you see The Mummy, rubbish film but she was hotter than hell in it. Agree 100% about Schindlers List, Spielberg's finest without doubt. Watched it again a week or so ago funnily enough, must be the forth or fifth time. Wouldn't put Jaws over Close Encounters to be honest, I have a big issue with that film and it's impact on peoples perceptions of sharks - tis a load of utter bollocks too. I always thought E.T. was a really good children's film and I don't think I've seen Duel more than once if at all, I'll revisit that then.

I couldn't bring myself to see The Mummy but in the clips I've seen she is indeed mega-hot! Enjoy Kingsman where she has blades for feet!

Kingsman is exactly what it sets out to be; fun. Don't expect Citizen Kane, or even Citizen X. It's a James Bond type spoof, but much better than the Austin Powers take on the genre in my opinion. Don't forget it's based on the graphic novel series written by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar, both of whom have fine pedigrees. Don't expect high art; do expect good acting and some snappy dialogue. I can't speak for the second Kingsman film as I haven't seen it, but I definitely will at some stage.

First film showing up to midnight, followed after a break by the new one so a late night for me. Might even treat myself to a bag of Tesco popcorn

If I find out it was on at my local Cineworld last night, there'll be hell to pay. I've had no email to say it was being shown.

It's tonight (Kingsman) at all Cineworlds as far as I know, or are you talking about Close Encounters?

I remember back when ET was released I felt like the only person in the country who hadn't seen it ...

You should try and see Schindler's List then Jules, it's on Netflix at the moment, not sure about Amazon as I just cancelled my Prime. It's a very good example of the movie making art at it's very best and I do consider films as art, especially good ones..

Shame it's not included on Prime at the moment.
