The 2022/23 season is off to an interesting start.
Zion back playing. The first coach is out the door. Jazz winning games. Dame starting off where he left off. Banchero looks like a good 1st pick. Boston seems to have lifted themselves above their offseason troubles. My Spurs 5-2?
Not quite what I expected.

rfan8312 Any thoughts on this season? I'm from Massachusetts not too far Boston and the Celtics made it all the way to the finals last season. Any idea if the Celtics have a chance at another deep run? Can Boston do as well as last year, or better? Last year they were the best team regular season once they figured out how to play team ball, sorted their defence out, trusted their new coach and understood his system. This year, their learnings from last year have remained. A pity about Gallinari. He could have helped with scoring in slow patches. Brogdon seems to have helped with second unit scoring. Jaylen has brushed away the slight from KD rumours. And some of the East power teams are off to slow starts. Yes, they can make the Conference Finals. Boston's stumbling block this year? Bucks, especially if Middleton makes it back to All-Star form.

This thread may start and end here, as it seems I will only end up talking to myself!

What's the word on Celtics?
I've been busy with the Bruins who are just lighting up the league this year.
I've checked the standings and see Celtics are in 1st place with 20 W and 6 L. Ahead quite a bit of the 2nd place in their conference.
How do they look though? Same as last season or better?

I have an idea they learnt some valuable things from last year's run. Guess they decided they were in control of how they reacted to a less than stellar off season.
Chicago is struggling (without Ball). Miami have had injuries (maybe Lowry on the trading block?) Indiana is a surprise. Cleveland has stepped up with Mitchell. Middleton has just played his first game for the bucks.
Eight teams two games apart from 4-11 in the East standings.
The league seems a little more even so far this year. i.e just saw the Rockets beat the 76ers.

Interesting. Ill start taking larger ganders at NBA.
Are you from NZ, Brett? How popular are American sports like NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL over there?

NZ, yes.
I was surprised when catching up with a friend who has lived in New Jersey for 35 years. He said they don't take any notice of the NBA until the end of the college and high school seasons, just prior to playoffs.
NBA would be the most popular, with a reasonable fan base. Ask any basketball kid, and they'll have a favourite team. MLB is more with the softball players here. NFL and NHL? Unsure. There are no games shown, so you'd have to subscribe. Harder to fall in love with a sport when you never see games on television.

Absolutely. It doesn't quite catch on until it takes hold of a city when a team wins or comes close to winning a title or championship.
I've folllowed sports my entire life and can say that here in the states it depends on location.
Texas is big into football as a way of life there but also since the Dallas Cowboys were a successful franchise for a while.
Boston is a baseball/football/hockey/basketball town in a big way.

I know this is the wrong thread for this (though the Boston Celtics are doing very well and will be in playoffs) but the Boston Bruins are having a historic season.
They are so far ahead of all other NHL teams that it's weird and they are brought up in any and all hockey discussions this year.
I never miss a game, they are an exciting team to watch. Recently their goalie Linus Ullmark scored a goal from his goal lol which is a rare feat.
In 6 weeks the playoffs begin and it will be madness because their Eastern Conference is very good.
They are predicted to win everything this year, the Stanley Cup, in June.
