Recently, some American on YouTube mentioned some sort of somewhat exclusive set he has due in the US - might actually have happened by now; can't remember dates. Anyway, he mentioned he wouldn't be going, not with tickets at $350 and the way his voice is now and has been for the last 3 years. Haven't heard his live stuff in years. Have noticed however his speaking voice has now changed being lower in pitch and somewhat wavering. Noticed the same with Melvyn Bragg when I heard him on the radio a year or two ago compared to when he did The South Bank Show on TV. More recently, same with Paul Merton.
At work someone was saying PM was good at Glastonbury; Piers Morgan was enthusiastic as well while knocking Diana Ross for her performance. Curious, I thought I would check his Glastonbury set out, which I did last night.
Well, despite being a lifelong fan, two songs was all I managed. I just found his voice pretty shot. Yes, he is 80; if it was me though, I'd call it a day. Had me wondering what Mick Jagger sounds like now. Two weeks time Dion (Dimucci) is 83 and he still sounds pretty good.

I decided not to listen to Macca for the very reasons you've mentioned. Dion is still way cool though, you're right. Blues with Friends and Stomping Ground are terrific albums.

I agree, I would have been disappointed with his performance at Glastonbury. Several years ago I saw him at Hyde Park and that was a great concert.
Leonard Cohen at the end was virtually speaking rather than singing, but the power of his final songs still made it an emotionally wrenching album.

If he'd called it a day in 1970 I would have been delighted.

If he'd called it a day in 1970 I would have been delighted. No need for that, Jules. No need whatsoever!

If he'd called it a day in 1970 I would have been delighted. But then you'd have missed out on classics like, "Mull of Kintyre". Er...
