Today I was looking at my Tchaikovsky VC playlist on Spotify and decided I wanted to add the wonderful Alfredo Campoli recording on Decca which was a great favourite on vinyl.
Just to make sure I had identified the correct recording I took a look at eBay vinyl and noticed someone looking for £875 for the Decca wideband and thought how glad I am that I'm not in the classical vinyl collecting game any more. I never spent that amount on a single disc but it reminded me of the hours hunting down vinyl and then the deep joy or infinite disappointment depending on whether it was NM as advertised, having to get a refund and send it back etc And the back breaking long sessions on the RCM ... Not good for herniated discs!
I'm not completely where I want to be with my streaming yet but don't miss the analogue game at all and relatively speaking my digital system is still in its infancy so plenty more to come. And how wonderful being able to pick and choose at will from historic and contemporary versions at the click of a button!

The best era for me with classical vinyl was roaming the unsorted piles in the Tower Records Piccadilly Circus branch. They had recordings and labels I had never heard of before and I enjoyed many an hour upstairs in that store. I could have cried when Tower went bust.
