Some time ago I modified one of my speakers selectors so that I could switch my subwoofer in and out of action depending on requirement. I ended up making a couple of them to trial sales wise. One of the reason that I came up with the idea is because one of my neighbours complained that the bass from my music was too loud at times. I haven't seen him for awhile though. So he might have moved out. It's rented accommodation.

Was switching out the sub very obvious? I guess it depends on the cutoff frequency.

Yes switching out the sub is quite obvious as far as the low frequencies are concerned. The floor boards didn't vibrate anymore and the bass wasn't deep and defined. But that's why I have the sub in the 1st place, especially for my reggae music.
