I completely agree.
My father was a true artisan and his craftsmanship was superb. He never liked music, though, and I never quite understood that.

I often wonder why I love music so much to the exclusion of so many other things that are not important to me It does something I can only describe as making me feel good

Excellent post, I completely agree. To me music allows us mere mortals express our feelings of all extremes from pure joy and happiness to extreme depths of despair, openly talk about love and hate and all facets. It never fails to amaze me when you get a bloke of the burly type, for example your axe thrashing hero who pens a beautiful love song fo all to hear, but if you got him on his own, even with a few pints down him, he would probably never openly discuss his most inner feelings and thoughts. And then there is all the fantastic variations of genres and styles used which give us different experiences, where would be at a party or wedding with out Disco, Soul and some Glam Rock. A day rarely goes by when I do not listen to at least one album, and in fact if I am away I get what I call music sickness from not being able to sit down and listen to something, whatever it may be.
