I was tempted to choose Ringo, but I couldn't take the abuse it would have generated. Ask other musicians though, and they'll almost to a man tell you what a good drummer he was, despite all of the barbed comments he still gets to this day.
I was tempted to choose Keith Moon, but that would just have been sentiment talking, he was actually a crap drummer. He was inventive, but he couldn't keep time; ask Pete Townshend.
I've ended up choosing Ginger Baker, the first man I saw performing a drum-roll on twin kicks.

I think my favourite drummer would have some of the following influences Bill Bruford he is my favourite YES drummer. Neil Peart is also a fabulous player I love his intro to Xanadu But my favourite at this moment in time is Danny Carey. Never a player to stand still Watch him on this to understand why

This is a tricky one for me too - many drummers come to mind but I then realise I know them mainly for one or two key tracks.
The one who stands out across all of their albums for me is John Bonham, who is more about the music than pyrotechnics. So he gets my choice.

For me there can be only one greatest Rock drummer and that is Terry Williams. Loved him in Man and saw him a number of times in various offshoots. However, despite still being very impressive, I don't hear his influence as acutely in his later work. So, what to do?
My greatest drummer must therefore be Seb Rochford. Highly inventive and utterly effortless. No one in the rock universe stands out this strongly and so I must look to Jazz for a drummer I could easily listen to all day (and often do!).

At the moment listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin, and John Bonham 'sound' is incredible!

John Bonham was assertive and creative, but not a patch on Ginger Baker (and I speak as someone who detests the excesses of Cream). You have to look to jazz to find the best drummers (and that's where Baker's best work lies).
Art Blakey is the man you're looking for, Martin!

Apart from the singer the guys playing the music for me make up a sum of parts and I don't isolate them but I must say Carl Palmer has stood out for me on the drums .

I did think of voting for Ginger Baker but decided his drumming was not as complex or creative as Bonham, albeit very powerful (and I love Baker-Gurvitz Army).
