I don't have any of Jeff Beck's music in my collection and I'd like to give him a try. Any suggestions on a good starting point to see if it appeals to me or not?

Gosh that's a hard one Jeff Beck Truth you can hear the early inspirations to Led Zeppelin first album A Classic album
Jeff Beck Guitar Shop really shows what Jeff is capable of as a guitar player
Perhaps my personal favourite is Performing This Week a kind of greatest hits live with some great playing on it from all concerned. Tal bass playing is really strong

Well, it was in Majorca!
I think the version on the album is even better than this YouTube vid.

As John said ealier, it is a tricky question. I suppose it might depend on how you feel about jazz tinged rock. The first 3 albums are excellent bluesy hard rock - and the first 2 include some of the best things Rod Stewart appeared on. As John alluded to, when you hear 'Truth' you'll realise that Led Zep I wasn't quite as groundbreaking as some might have you believe. From the more jazz rock period, I think others will be better placed than me to make a recommendation, it's so different from the earlier stuff that you would might be bettoer off treating it as having come from a different artist. I'm damning it with faint praise - it's not bad, really! However, he came back on song for me with 'Guitar Shop'.
