I know it's corny, but I'm hearing things I hadn't noticed before. Unfortunately, tonight, what I heard was Glenn-bloody-Gould humming as he played Bach. I hadn't heard Glenn-bloody-Gould playing before reading about how distracting his humming could be. Looked for it on Tidal, and started playing it.
It's not difficult to hear the humming.
How come you've never noticed it before? The thing is, if you switch back to the gear you used before you started tinkering you'll hear the humming in all of its annoying glory. You've heard it, and your brain won't let you unhear it.

I'm not sure if that's an actual question, or whether it's meant to be rhetorical, but last night I was listening to the remastered version of Gould playing Bach's English suites and the humming actually made me sit up and take notice for the first time. I was trying to work out if it was some weird "mechanical" noise from the piano itself when I remembered Gould's propensity for "humming along" to his playing. As for not being able to "unhear it," I found that once I'd worked out what it actually was I was able to ignore it for the most part.

It was the remastered version I listened to. I found that once I'd picked up the sound, and identified what it was, I was able to ignore it.

Thanks, I've bookmarked that link. What I want though, to start with at least, is something cheap and nasty that I can hack about, because at the moment I don't know if the USB daughter card in my DAC does actually require power from USB. If I can prove it doesn't then the sBooster dongle looks like it might be a good bet.

Well I just tried the QP-1 again Tony had upgraded it to power the Limetree and no issues powering the Tinkerboard I could hear Volumio make it usual start up sound I used my phone app to check I can see Volumio and is showing Another drop in the noise floor The biggest difference is in the piano as sounds more real Nice upgrade over the battery solution

My offer stands: I'll ship this lot off to the next member to undertake to build a Tinker Board streamer based on Volumio. We want more people to discover how amazing streaming can sound!

It is working fine I think it might of been because I was connecting to Volumio by bing from my computer rather than the app It's a good upgrade from using a 12v battery and 5v dc converter I think the extra work you did for the Limetree made the difference

I'm interested in trying the Tinkerboard to see if it improves on my Pi/Boss/Volumio setup.
However... I have no Dac so which Dac Hat would you recommend to go with the Tinkerboard?
I'm using an HDPlex linear PSU to power the Pi and Boss Dac separately so I'm covered for power.

The Topping D70 is a very good DAC for the money

Since the idea of moving from Pi to Tinker Board is because of the vastly improved USB quality, I would hesitate to recommend it for use with a HAT as you may see no improvement and the Asus may not be fully compatible with it.

Two sockets, a surface mount 4-gang dip-switch, and a lump of Vero. Now I can disable USB lines individually, and I'll be able to find out if the USB daughter board in my DAC needs power from the USB cable or not.

Visited Vic today to compare the ASUS Tinkerboard with the Oehlbach master reclocker against the Limetree Impossible to say which was better they sounded very similar I think for me it shows how much the Mutec is doing Still not bad a 300 transport including reclocker equally a device that easily beat the SOtM Ultra Neo 200
