John posted a version of this recently, and it's been one of my favourite pieces of guitar playing since the day I first heard it. It's like no other guitar instrumental I know.
I never expected to find quite so many versions of what is a pretty iconic track though. Like this one for instance, by Lily Haydn, on violin.
The Blackbyrds certainly do it justice...
You don't get much further away from Funkadelic then these guys, looks-wise anyway.
Even Carlos has a bash at it...
Last one - Bass player Mike Watt (ex Minutemen fiREHOSE) from his album Ball-Hog, or Tugboat. Bernie Worrell is on Hammond B3, and J Mascis is playing guitar.

One of my favourite guitar tracks too. There's a bass guitar version by David Pastorius (Jaco is his uncle)

It doesn't really get going like the original John. Interesting that he chose to do it though.

Flea covers it on bass, too. I didn't include it here, it's pretty rough.

Excellent - I've spent the last 2 hours listening to Maggot Brain covers on YouTube, as well as the original. It's all new to me. Thanks for the thread.
