What songs transcend production and SQ and speak to you? Tonight I'll got with 2 by Springsteen. There are of course many more some from Born to Run naturally. These two are complicated and deserve some research into what Bruce probably meant; although he's pretty secretive about sources and inspirations.. And Be great if you could share some too.

I love "story songs" and artists like Al Stewart, Tom Waits, Harry Chapin, Tom Russell, etc.
I always choose this one as a perfect example.
This was the first Tom Russell song I ever heard.
And this is a perfect example of one of Al Stewart's "history" songs.

I've never been one for lyrics but this speaks from the heart and is beautifully sung, as ever, by Tina Dico.

Old Compton Street Blues, for example, sad song. Many others too. The ones I'm not familiar with will take some time to get into / understand the story..

The ones I'm not familiar with will take some time to get into / understand the story.. Harry Chapin is one of my favourite artists of all time, and that live album shows both him, and his band, at their absolute peak. There are not many artists who I regret never having seen live, but he's definitely one of them. The Tom Russell album In took that track from is full of gems. A guy I was building a website for ran a record shop, and he tossed me a promo copy of the album, saying "you'll probably like this bloke. It was love-at-first-listen. My late wife used to call him "The Johnny Cash who can sing," and she was a Johnny Cash fan. Tom also wrote this song, long before Trump seized the presidency... We've got fundamentalist Moslems We've got fundamentalist Jews We've got fundamentalist Christians They'll blow the whole thing up for you But as I travel around this big old world There's one thing that I most fear It's a white man in a golf shirt With a cell phone in his earWise words indeed.
