Break out the Rioja and the castanets! Kicking it old school - Iberia and Suite Espanola with Enrique Batiz on the podium. OMG you just have to crank this, it's totally irresistible, more vivid than Technicolour, more romance than Mills and Boon; just gobs of fun …

Curiously, the sq on the older, DG recording of Jochum's Bruckner 9th holds up much better! .... actually, it sounds great! Mid 60s DG - whodathunkit? Storming, and with a better sound balance. The brass section are stupendous.

An interesting curiosity by Czerny -- Mozart's Requiem with the orchestral part transcribed for piano duet.
Kind of reminds me of the piano version of Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle

.... gave up on the Czerny/Mozart after about 15 minutes. Pleasant enough, but ...
This, though, is enjoyable. Definitely Slinger-fodder!

Gosh, that's heavyweight playing. She is a force of nature and I love her Rach 2. So fluid and effortless - can’t wait to see her on April1! Shame the orchestra aren’t always on the same page.

I am very much hoping to get tickets to see the Bolshoi Ballet perform Spartacus in the summer. The music by Khachaturian is compelling and the Adagio is an all time favourite of mine. When I was solely listening to vinyl one of my 'test' records was the famous 1962 Decca recording with the composer conducting the Vienna Phil. Now I'm on Spotify I thought it was time to look for alternatives. Neeme Jaarvi heads out of the blocks like he's on speed, destroying the delicate atmosphere for me. Conversely Temirkanov is so plodding you might think he has taken a mogadon and I just run out of patience with it. Back to the original and happiness is restored, it really is such a wonderfully expressive performance; I’m struggling to think of how it could be improved.

My son has just starting learning one of the Tartini Sonatas and this reminded me how much I love these works. Not especially well served in terms of recordings if you want anything other than 'The Devils Trill' but have found a complete set in two parts.

Try these, Jules. They're the only Tartini albums I own.
