I'm wondering about the Hermei caps in the Caiman that seem to provide power supply decoupling. I know C87 and C88 can be replaced by supercaps but what about the others, in particular the largest 4700uf 16v C81 cap? Has anyone changed these and if so was it worth it. I'm considering something like Panasonic FR low ESR as replacements. I am using the SEG 22 firmware and a 15 volt linear power supply with an LM317 chip. I know the LM317 can oscillate and misbehave if given low ESR caps on the output, although the PSU and the DAC is separated by a 2 metre lead that should give some slight resistance. Also, the volume knob seems to be glued on. I do not want to break things by applying excessive force. Any tips on getting it off?

To remove the volume knob for the first time you'll need to first indulge in some spinach eating. It's not the easiest if thing to pull out. You can change the other caps. But in the medium to long term you should try the Dorado supercap PSU against your LM317 version.
