I was first introduced to NovaFidelity by @tonyc of Coherent Systems.
I'd been looking for a replacement for my previous Naim NDX which was a total let down following from their CD Players I'd previously owned.
Tony brought over a few different options including the NovaFidelity X40, which I decided on.
My previous Cambridge Audio CXC and Beresford Caiman SEG had already bettered the Naim NDX which is why I had finally sold it, but interestingly I also preferred it over the CDX2 too which hadn't expect, so sold that too.
Playing CD's via the internal CD drive of the NovaFidelity X40 was similar level, but arguably not quite as the CXC/SEG combo, however, once I import the music onto the internal HDD the difference is remarkable, it take it to a completely different level.
It also streams from files that I have imported onto my home computer which sound better than playing via the CD drive, but not quite as good as importing onto the internal HDD. I can certainly hear differences between Applelossless and FLAC recordings.
I have heard a few different NovaFidelity models and they are all excellent, very musical and not bad value for money, so highly recommended.

That's interesting Paul - I don't understand the technicalities of this at all ... Can anyone explain why importing the cd should raise sound quality in such a way?

For the non technical like me.
The 1s and 0s are arranged in a line so there is less work for the kit to do. It seems a HD does this better a CD reader
The difference in sound quality is marked

Hmm - maybe I need the semi-technical explanation Mike ... LOL.
Do all streamers respond in the same way?

Hmm - maybe I need the semi-technical explanation Mike ... LOL. Do all streamers respond in the same way? I don't really understand the technical reasoning although I have had it explained to me a number of times but as Mike says, there is a marked improvement once the files have been transferred to the HDD. My assumption is that it is the same for all streamers that have on-board storage.
