Daniel Barenboim speaking to the European Parliament is worth a thread in its own right.

I think it’s a very fine speech - he gets across a range of most salient points in his 10 minutes.
I love this idea he has of getting to know people through music and the development of cultural diversity in this way.
It's one way of tackling the rise of nationalistic tendencies in Europe.
Naturally he laments the way music education has been sidelined in schools and calls for it to be taught on the same level as core subjects.
And as much as he enjoys on-line access to current and historical recordings he notes that this won’t create a sustainable future for musicians unless they are compensated appropriately.
