Any suggestions would be welcome, bearing in mind I am a computer numpty!
I use Spotify quite a lot, and in the early days it was zippy and quick to respond to commands. But now, most often but not always, it can take tens of seconds to respond to a search query or even just to a scroll-down/up command.
Once the music has started there are no issues with playback, but it can take ages sometimes to get to the music!
I also use Qobuz these days, and that just zooms along!
Any suggestions what I can do?

I find that Spotify tries to do too much while typing into the search box (it starts immediately looking for matches) which really slows down my under-powered tablet which I normally use on the big system. The lag is sometimes very bad. No such problems with my PC which has considerably more grunt.
In Edit | Preferences | Advanced Settings, you could try turning off Enable hardware acceleration. Sometimes this can cause problems with incompatible hardware.

Thanks Martin, I've just done that. Have to restart Spotify to make the change come into effect and it's often speedier for a while after that. Looking good atm though - it's zipping along!

... nope, it's slowed right down again. Takes a minute or so to respond to any command.
Qobuz is zipping along with instant responses.
Very strange.

On what device, Jerry?

Acer laptop - no lack of processing power. Sometimes Spotify zips along with instant responses - other times (and usually these days) it almost grinds to a halt.
Numpty thought - it's like there is a buffer dedicated to Spotify that fills up after a while, and when it does it goes slooooow. Nothing else I use on the laptop seems affected.
If the PC or Spotify itself are turned off then on again, it speeds up to zippy speeds for a while.

Strange. I only have slowness on my little 8" Windows tablet, which has a very low power Atom CPU. When I disabled hardware acceleration it seemed to help a bit. I haven't seen the variability that you have, though.
Are you sure that it isn't your wi-fi connection? The Spotify client is quite demanding of a good connection.

I've never had slowness on my tablet or phone, but I do find Spotify seems to take an age to open on my iMac. Once it is open it is generally ok though.

I'm not saying it is for a moment, but applications can do this despite other applications running wi-fi just fine. Buffer/cache comes to mind. Spotify has its own cache, so it's worth checking in Advanced Settings that Offline Songs Storage isn't going anywhere stupid. I point mine to c:\temp so that it's easily cleared.

Offline songs storage? What's that, then? I'll have a look. Strange - offline songs storage is set to a location that deosn't exist. I've reset it to a valid address on my PC. I'll see how it goes now.
