The various mods I try out are all fitted to a test unit. The following are pictures of some of the mods. The complete PCB:

The headphone amp modded with Nichicon and Elna caps, the Capella audio output buffer IC, modified feedback network. Voltage rail for the HPA section is increased as well.

The 47000uF supercaps are bent at 90 degrees, which looks a lot nicer. The HPA cap was increased from 1000uF to 2200uF.

The test PCB has the supercap power supply mod in an experimental configuration. But the lack of safety features to prevent accidental voltages of more than 15V is the main reason why I did not offer this as a solution to add a supercap upgrade of the incoming DC voltage. Notice the plastic protection screens around the supercaps. I fitted those to avoid accidental touching any exposed electrical parts.

Thanks, Stan. I left my Tokins standing up.
Is the HPA cap worth doing, too? Can you point me to a source?
In case you were wondering at my silence, it's because I can't stop listening to music at the moment. The SEG with your supercap PSU is outstanding. You should try Touch by Yello.

The PHONO sockets for the output have been replaced with chassis mounted RCA sockets.

Oh, and a mod suggestion back: try a better fuse for FUSE1.

If you are not a headphone person then it's not worth the stripping down of the PCB to work on.

Oh, and a mod suggestion back: try a better fuse for FUSE1. I am using one of the gold plated fuses from Mark Grant.

I just realized that the two 47uF caps next to the DAC/AMP switch can also be upgraded. I'll give that a try and see if it is worth the effort.
