I'm starting this thread for anything Rune-related. If you're 'lost' already then this thread is probably not for you. The Rune forum has been a mine of useful information. Here's where I've gone so far... Upsampling now set to 24/88.2 using the SOXR Upscaler set to "very high" Rune recommends disabling the UI volume control in MPD to achieve the best audio quality, so that's been done too. I've found some other quite comprehensive code changes to alter Dram, frequency settings, and more, on the Pi, which supposedly can add an 'analogue' sound to the output. They're detailed here... I may play with them in the future to see what they achieve, if anything. To bugger about with the code I've been using both WinSCP and PuTTYI've assembled this system from scratch, so I can't compare anything with "how it used to sound" but I can say it sounds bloomin' good.

To bugger about with the code I've been using both WinSCP and PuTTYGood tools, both. I found a Metro (Windows App) version that I can run on my little Windows 10 S tablet for quickly digging into the Pi.

The coding would scare me off Rune.

The coding would scare me off Rune. You don't actually need to do any coding, John. It works straight "out of the box" so to speak. They (Rune) state that their intention is "bit-perfect" reproduction, hence no easy access to anything that, in their opinion, gets in the way of this. I wanted to try upsampling, so I followed a few forum posts and changed some well-documented lines. Admittedly my experience as a coder in the past meant I probably had less fear then some other people might have, but I didn't know the 'language,' so I was flying blind as far as that was concerned.

I got good results with upsampling using Volumio so would what this facility using other solutions My fear around coding would prevent trying this

I can't say that I blame you, John. I certainly wouldn't have chosen to do it. I usually plan much more carefully, but this time I made too many assumptions and got caught out by that. I "assumed" that the feature-sets of all of the main software solutions would be very similar, so I based too much of my decision on aesthetics. It sort of cascaded from there. Once I'd decided on Roon I only verified that the Digi+ clone I liked was compatible with Rune. I've since found out that said "clone" is only Volumio compliant with the Pi 2, and not the Pi 3 I'm running, so Rune and I are stuck with each other in this marriage of inconvenience. Having said all that, the sound quality is brilliant, so I can't complain too much.

Sounds like it works for you, Paul. Since you don't mind digging into the config files, you should be able to get it to do all you want.
Have you tried any upsampling yet?

Believe me, it's more than the "config.txt" file, Martin As I said in the first post, ' Upsampling now set to 24/88.2 using the SOXR" Upscaler set to "very high"'

Ah ok, missed that. How do you find it? I guess it's not easy to switch over.

It's not too difficult, in the scheme of things, but I'm happy with 24/88.2 at the moment. I've just ordered a 0.5m Belden 1694a/Canare S/PDIF lead, and a couple more Klotz AC110/Neutrik RCA to RCA leads, so that's standardised across the setup. It's almost scary to contemplate what an upgrade from my Mk1 Bushmaster to a SEG could achieve, bearing in mind how good it sounds already. I need to find a way to afford it. The amp/CD player combo also sounds terrific and I'm enjoying the music it's kicking out. Again, it would be interesting to hear it running it via a SEG. At the moment CD to amp direct has the edge over playing via the Bushmaster. All in all, I've spent a fair bit more than I intended on the system as a whole, but sound-wise it's been worth it. Now...about that SEG

It's all worth it if you're getting more music.
When I think back to having to choose so wisely as a student what to buy on LP, because I couldn't afford all I wanted, I honestly think for music provision "we've never had it so good", to quote Macmillan.

I'm sort of doing that in reverse. I always had 'enough' money to be comfortable in the past but currently, my outgoings are higher than my income, so I'm 'living' on my savings to a certain extent.
