The question is will it be ok from the box and how long will it last?

The historical reputation for poor reliability is a difficult one to shrug off!

Arthur always put sound first but hopefully he's got the manufacturing sorted this time.

Has anyone actally seen one of these in the flesh or even played with one? I've seen some pics which make it look very flimsy. Maybe I'm just finding it hard to shake off memories of poor build in PT products. Could be an interesting product if it's reliable. OTOH there are gazillions of 80s super decks and vintage Japanese DDs out there that are less money and built like tanks.

I hope it wasn't named by a Scouser! What's the price?

Thanks. More than I imagined.

Really? Presumably competing in Planar 3 territory.
There aren't many decent decks to be had for much less, unless you fancy a Project which I've never found appealing.

I can't help but respect Arthur's ingenuity. He keeps bringing new, innovative and even heretical things to market. Sadly I don't appear to have the same tastes as he does. Whilst I can hear the detail, his stuff has usually proven too edgy, bright and lightweight for my tastes.

Maybe I'm just finding it hard to shake off memories of poor build in PT products. Could be an interesting product if it's reliable. OTOH there are gazillions of 80s super decks and vintage Japanese DDs out there that are less money and built like tanks. I set one up but wasn't able to fit a cartridge. It looks great in the flesh and the arm is fascinating, BUT..... the top platter didn't fit on the hub properly so went up and down - I didn't want to force it into place but you could see it not sitting flush. The main bearing had slop in it which may be deliberate for all I know, but Rega hydraulic locks it aint! the arm finish was ok but the thread-bearing 'cradle' had file marks or similar around it but not too bad to be fair. Lastly, the thread on the counterweight stub (or on the counterweight itself) had a tight spot every revolution and no damping elsewhere, so the counterweight could almost spin freely until it hit the tight spot, after which it was free again.. The thread tonearm bearings is fascinating and not as unstable as you'd imagine, but reliable with typical 'domestic numpty' handling?
For the money, a Rega 3 in current trim makes so much better reliable value and consistent engineering where it really matters beneath the skin I don't really know what to say. Arthur designs some fascinating products but has never been able to make consistently well made and finished examples over the years and I feel it's very sad. With some attention to fine finish details and a top platter that properly fits the bearing hub, together with a better tolerance main bearing (or specific info as to why it's sloppy), I'd happily give one a try though...
Edgy and bright Andrew? that's your tastes in amps and speakers methinks - joking

Haha I do tend to like a bright sound, but I also like a fat bottom! I think it's the missing heft lower down that exposes the other elements.
Thanks for such a good and detailed first hand account, Dave. I really hope Arthur manages to iron out any teething troubles. I would still love to hear one sometime. I'm a big Rega fan too and I'd be very inclined to go for a 3 too, if Imwas spending £600 on a new deck. They are pretty much bullet-proof and do fit my sonic tastes more. I could happily live with a Rega 3 any day. Sited properly, I find them truly satisfying, Sure, there are better decks out there but you never reflect on that when you are listening to a Rega.

Current Rega 3's have life and 'verve' and don't bloat the bass or appear to deaden the music as maybe they could be accused of in past years. The Neo supply which I believe is an option has fine speed tuning too, so answers the 'Regas run fast' issue and it's my view that internal engineering is rather better than equivalent Pro-jects. They're too damned common and easy to recommend though and this is where I hope the Gett can be sorted out, as there's some genuinely decent sideways thinking here. It looks great in the flesh too I think.

I wonder if Arthur will ever release the arm separately? I think it could be a winner. People buying turntables ex-arm are probably more savvy and also willing to tinker and work at getting the best from an arm and cartridge combination. There are so few low price arms out there apart from Rega and their clones. I'm genuinely surprised there are so few cheap uni-pivots out there. I think there is a real niche to fill there and the Funk thread bearing arm could be the thing to do it. I reckon I'd probably buy one at some stage.

String suspension isn't something unique or new. The Well Tempered Arm used it decades ago - and continues to.

I think the WT arm is stabilised with a Delrin disc in a fluid filled cup as shown in the pics. I don't know about the Gett arm unless it either doesn't need it or there's a magnet assembly - I need to do some research

A pity Arthur doesn't frequent forums. I can understand why in some ways, but his stuff is always interesting and there are usually questions loads of people would love to seek answers to. Where better than the horse's mouth? TAS is also a place where he could post without any sort of bun fight. I reckon his presence would be good for his products' visibility and appreciation.

His only issue has been in getting the basic engineering fit and finish right. This deck is around £600 and could be a turntable audiophile bargain. I don't have the dosh to buy and run one, but have hopes for it.
