Hi Everyone.
My TT platter has just started widly fluctuating and will not hold its speed on either 45 or 33. Could this be a belt slipping or the Servo motor coming to the end of its life?

It could be a loose belt. What type of motor is it and what control electronics does it use?

It appears to be only when the auto shutoff is engaged. I might have crated the fault myself as it would shut off before the record ended and having looked insde there is a black disc on an arm attached to a shaft below the arm. This disc i guessed shut off the light to a sensor below which then turned off the power. I moved the disc a few degrees from the centre of the platter so it would cover the light later but all I seem to have done is bugger up the operation.

Can't help with the speed fluctuation maybe but.. Ideally you could get a scope on it and measure at various points to narrow it down.
Could it be the speed pitch pot? The Pioneer PL-71 suffered from that.. Or switch could be dirty and not making a good contact. PL-71 also suffered from that too..
I had an RD11e back in the 80's / 90's.
Mine had a weird paddle attached to the bottom of the tonearm that broke a light beam and stopped the motor before the inner grove thump!
I fitted a different arm of course..

Mine has one too, i adjusted the angle becasue it was turning the power off too early, it apears i may have caused this speed fluctuation issue by doing so, although i don't see how the two issues are connected
