The Denon DL-110 and even better (but sadly withdrawn) DL-160 are great sounding all-rounders.

I haven't heard a Denon I haven't loved. 110 and 160 are/were real bargains. 301 is very good and 304 is better. Both are worth the extra over the cheaper ones AFAIC. 103 can be wonderful in the right setup, but it's outclassed by the 103R which sounds cleaner, clearer and isn't as fussy about such a massy arm. I'd take a 103R over any other Denon I've tried, and that's a long list, including a few modded Denons too. Never heard a DLS-1....yet.
Again, it's all personal choice and carts are so very personal.

Going back to the Ortofon 2M series, I remembered seeing that they were OM series "in disguise" with slightly different compliance styli. Here's a pic and the thread it came from how to host an imageforums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/anatomy-of-ortofon-2m-blue-cartridge.740698/There are also a number of threads where people fit OM styli on 2M cartridges. I wonder if all the people shelling out £500 for a 2m Black are aware it's basically the throwaway cart from old £90 budget decks with a better stylus.

Surely for £28 it's worth trying the stylus I pointed to if only to find out if you like the sound of the Pickering? Yes I agree it is and now you have reminded me I will take a look at the link and sort one
