I never used to have the TV connected to my hifi, but nowadays I always have my TV/DVDBlu-Ray sound fed through the hifi. It's the same in the bedroom too. What at about others? What's your set-up for TV? Anyone hate the idea? heres my lounge TV setup.  large gif hostingSamsung Blu Ray, Apple TV, Myst Tma3 and modified Royd Minstrels. |

Yes I can put the TV through the system I know it's a bit of a compromise but nice to have a good film sounding good too. I also used to use for watching YouTube concerts when I had the server but not done that for awhile.

I used to have them combined, but no longer. The music room has no TV. I'm currently building a new TV system in the sitting room.
Do you listen to films in stereo, Andrew?

I've got a cheap and cheerful set up that works a treat for me - got a tiny SMSL amp feeding a pair of Denon bookshelf speakers ...

All together in the same system
TV and the like have been connected to the system for more years than I can remember.
Be good if the TV would disappear sometimes, but often check and set recordings up for TV while listening to the system.
Like the idea of the TV going into the floor as I have seen. Not keen on the cost and extra tech though

No - I prefer to keep hifi separate from TV.
I find TV sound even through a good system is pretty basic, so running it through the hifi a waste of time.
I've also yet to come across any AV receiver that can match the sound quality of a good hifi so I wouldn't go that route either.
I therefore have a good hifi for the music and a basic AV receiver for TV, and ne'er the twain shall meet.

Just have a soundbar for the tv, and only because there is an odd vibration from the internal speakers past a certain volume as if something is loose.
Dont watch it much, never have.
Tv is mainly used with the ps4, playing computer games and the odd bit of Netflix or amazon prime

Yeah I do. Not quite got it perfect(not getting my chromecast through it) but it's pretty good.

My Dad used to do this back in the mid 90's. Was only a kid back then. But my memory tells me the sound results was pretty good.

I stick the optical output from the TV into an input on the DAC of my Accuphase CD player. Sounds great!

Yes, i have a dedicated 5.1 AV amp running my BRP in lovely HD-Master Audio, and standard synthetic surround modes for TV, however there are more and more programmes being recorded in 5.1 which sound pretty good to my tired old ears

I currently have a Yamaha Surround Sound amp which is connected into my Exposure’s and the Focal’s work as fronts. I’m honestly thinking about doing away with that and moving to one of the new Sky box thingys, to keep the system separate.

I do. My system sees the most use as a TV system, as I have a family. It's rather spoiled me to be honest! I'm perfectly happy with 2 channel for movies too.
Lovely Minstrels in that top picture BTW, I've a set to collect from East London soon. It's been too long without Minstrels in my life!

Thought of playing with a 2nd pair of speakers. Never got around to it.
Be interesting to hear a 4 or 5 speaker system and compare to mine on the same film.
Need to be close to the same type of system of course. Difficult to achieve.
Thinking on ... Maybe a small amp and speakers connected up to the DVD player......
The upgrades in my system have shown up very clearly in a lot of average TV as well as wonderful sound on some well made films.
Find it most amusing when you hear a tube train rumbling under the scene

Quick question for anyone who can help ..
I'm outputting analogue audio from my TV via a cable connected to the headphone socket, to my amp. I'm able to control the volume level to the amp using my TV remote control.
If I stick a DAC in front of the amp, and output sound using an optical cable from the TV, will the TV remote still be able to change volume levels?

I'd be inclined to say probably not. As far as I know, they are two separate outputs, analogue and digital, and never the twain shall meet. Hey, I know what you need...another SMSL Q5 (which has a remote, of course), a spare pair of speakers, and then you could hook up a subwoofer too.  |

I guess it depends on the TV set. Mine will not output digital and keep the TV speakers active at the same time, i used to output the TV via optical to my amp, but eventually went the whole 9 yrds and re-connected the HDMI to my AV amp and the TV is just a monitor.
