My mum wanted a new radio so we headed to John Lewis where we bought one of their own brand models - the Octave. Not especially cheap at £150 but you get a lot for your money. It's a DAB & FM radio, and has excellent reception for Radio 3 & 4. But it also has built in WiFi, so you can listen to internet radio as well. You can also stream to it via Bluetooth from your phone and it has USB connection so you can play files from a storage device. Sound quality is very pleasing with a big sound from rear ported stereo speakers. Decent suggestion of bass and very crisp mid / treble. If you want to tinker there are lots of preset EQ settings in the menu to choose from and also precise bass / treble settings. It's also rather nice to look at - I do like the wood casing. Fully featured remote is excellent. To round things off you have a clock / alarm feature. It's an excellent unit!

I agree that is quite pretty, wish my wife had got one of those rather than an Amazon Echo Dot for our kitchen!

I really like that Jules, I was looking for an old VHF Radio for the kitchen, but that looks pretty good. Does/can it take an external aerial?

No I think an external aerial input is the one thing it doesn't have!

Does/can it take an external aerial? Most of the PURE Evoke range have an extendible antenna, my two models (6/7 years old) allow you to unscrew it and connect an external aerial - not sure about the current range, but they look the same. The C-F6 does Spotify Connect, as well as play CDs. John Lewis is a pretty good place to have a browse through Radios, not tried their in-house range as I have 2 PURE radio's, but they (JL) look as good in the flesh as they do in the picture Jules posted, as I was admiring them recently

I must say I'm really pleased I found this for my mum as she's enjoying it so much. I would buy one myself if only I could justify it, which I can't ...

Mine is a iron bed frame and a coil and a germanium diode and Piezo Ear Plug, no batteries required.

Having recently bought PURE clock/radios I wouldn't buy PURE again - they look and feel very cheap, one of the buttons is already sticking and the 'auto dim' function doesn't really work.
For ordinary radios we have in kitchen and diner BUSH wooden radios - they both work well and they're a reasonable price.
(Oh and we've had bad experiences with JL goods so we don't buy them either !! )
