Got a new to me turntable in today, and bought a new belt for it. I put it on, and it's playing way too fast. Tried putting 2 coils of electrical tape in the platter, but it didn't make a difference. I saw in the manual for it that it shipped with 2 capstans, one for 60hz, and another one for 50hz...this is what's on there now. Is it right?

Hi and welcome to TAS, I don’t know the answer to your question, but hopefully someone might.

Hi. Yes, as Paul says, welcome to the forum.
I'm afraid I'm not able to answer your question, but others may be able to help. They may need to know some more info - I guess the first obvious question would be where in the world you are, in order to know what frequency you have. I'm guessing you are in the US, but I don't know for sure.

Just timed it and it is going a little better than 40rpm, so almost 20 percent off

I had one of those TT's a right pain in the arse it was. I avoid turntable like the plague that have transformers built under the hood.

Got it figured out. Got the dimensions from a guy on vinylengine forum, and found out that I have the 50hz capstan. I chucked it in my lathe and machined .025 inch off of It, and now it plays almost spot on... when I get the correct belt, I will fine tune the speed..
