I have one pressing of Kind of Blue ( this one), and I don't think it's up to much. Please recommend your preferred pressing/s, with explanation/s of why (e.g. did it compare favourably to certain other pressings?) if at all possible. Thanks!

Nimbus Supercut: generally accepted to be the finest ever mastering from the tape onto vinyl. It certainly sounds vivid and engaging. SACD: excellent digital transfer, quite a lot better sounding than the standard CD. Similar to the vinyl with the same tape noise, so nothing has been filtered out.

Thanks Martin! Do you have any experience with any lesser - but still good - pressings? The Nimbus Supercut sounds dazzling, but at the going rate of £200-300, it's a little beyond my present means

No, but my first port of call would be the German Speakers Corner label. They remaster a lot of jazz and their pressings are usually superb.
<checks> nope, it looks like they don't do Kind of Blue, only these.
Next would be Back to Black, but they only have this.
Damn!

Ah well. Thanks for taking a look Those imprints are new to me, and they seem to carry a few other Jazz classics that it would be nice to have a swanky version of, so great for future reference. But the search for Kind Of Blue continues...

I have the Music on Vinyl pressing from 2010, which was recommended to me and has received generally good reviews I believe. All of the MOV stuff I have is pretty good but I have to stress that I haven't compared it to any others on my own system.

This one looks to be still available and it corrects the issue of the slow running R2R used on the original masters link

So you're recommending something that hasn't been released yet? Let me guess where it will be available for purchase.....wait a minute, you won't be selling it, will you Scott?

All these new versions are from digital (possibly even the upcoming MFSL). I believe there were two tape machines run on recording so there was a second tape that ran (side 2) at the right speed. This is what I believe is used on the later 200 grm Classic (all analogue). Classic issued an earlier 2 disc version that had both speeded up and corrected versions.

The company that went down the tubes because they listened to their customers and played the audiophool numbers game. I have a couple of their 180g pressings, and they're excellent, but there were that many pressing issues with the 200g stuff that the returns literally ruined the company. It was a real shame. I have the MOV pressing, and I think it sounds pretty good
