What did you make of the sound quality change between Mode 2 and 3, Paul? Quite a big change. Sounds less digital / closer to analogue. Yeah I'd go with that, Paul.

The new SEG DAC has been 'burned-in' and I must admit it does sound very good indeed -especially with the Cambridge CXC. BW Richard.

If you haven't got a battery for the SEG, get one and you'll hear a significant improvement.

Thanks Paul. I have it powered by a linear PSU - similar to the one Stan recommends.

Battery sounds better, but there's plenty of time for that. Just enjoy it.

Don't most battery packs - over-say 6V - have 'switching circuits' in them similar to the dreaded Wallmarts? Richard.

Not all, certainly not a 12V lead acid battery.

I think much like battery power linear power supplies very in quality Having played a lot with different batteries I say a 12v lead battery is great cost effective solution

Gosh yes, you can get small sealed Yuasa 12V lead-acid batteries. I've just ordered one for my Caiman SEG.

Listening to the Caiman from the battery now. Too early to summarise, but it sounds very promising at the moment.
By the way, there are lots of Yuasa 12V models on eBay. Any of them are vastly overrated for the job.

Do you think it will improve with use ?
I think I know the name Yuasa. Are they well known ?
Does a :DAC take a steady supply or are there peaks and dips?
