Don't worry folks, Cambridge Audio is not paying me to do this!!
Just to say, that this is a nice quality transport.
Happy with how it is. No interest in tweaking/modding it etc. Because, in my opinion, it doesn't NEED it, and should be left well alone.
But remember, this is my opinion.
Well done to Cambridge Audio.

Having heard one at @pjdowns with a Caiman SEG DAC, it sounded very nice indeed. We found it responded very well to Black Ravioli footers.

Black Ravioli footers... are they really worth it? I have aCambridge + Caiman and agree it's very good, but do these rubber feet really enhance its SQ? What happened to half squash balls instead? Richard.

The CXC is a superb piece of kit and an absolute bargain. It wipes the floor with my Naim NDX (which will be sold) and previous Naim CDX2 (which has been sold), and both of the Naim products cost 4 times the CXC/DAC combo.
I tried Sorbathane feet which are very similar to half squashed balls I understand, first and they made a small difference but after trying RDC Cones, followed by original Black Ravioli and original black Stillpoints courtesy of Mike, I stumped for the Stillpoints which were the best of the lot by quite a margin.
However, Martin brought over some of the newer Black Ravioli, and it made a substantial difference over the Stillpoints I am currently using. Yes, they are a lot of money (as you need four, one for each corner preferably), but I think they make enough difference to warrant it, I will certainly be going in that direction at some point in the future.

Modding wise, I doubt I would consider this option, as I don't have the technical nous and I would be very concerned about damaging the CXC, it would also void my 5 year warranty.

People certainly have their ways and tastes, that I can understand!
Naim is another prime example of evil rip-off I'm afraid.
Paul, imagine if you posted the above on the Naim forum! You'd just end up getting ridiculed, followed by a immortal banning.

Yes, Mode 3 (4th setting) is truly superb.

I was astounded by the difference Mode 4 made over Mode 2 that I was using before, seriously astounded.

How do you change the mode again?

ManualStan actually calls them Modes 0-3 so it's Mode 3 we're talking about.

Interesting....I 'just' have the Caiman2 (not the SEG). Which of the 3 modes do you recommend?
Is the SEG a worthwhile improvement?
Does anyone know when Stan is going to bring out his latest incarnation?
Richard.

The SEG is even better than the Caiman-II with all the mods and latest firmware, so I would say it's well worth having. Unless you have Stan's latest firmware, then you won't have access to the different Modes.

Martin!
You've cost me more money...just ordered a SEG.
Now I have a Bushmaster, Linn Mimik CD player, Tisbury pre-amp for sale...(should more than cover the cost of the SEG I hope).
Will report back after burn-in and A/B comparisons.
Richard.

Great stuff, Richard. Put it in Mode 3 and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Run it off a 12V battery for even more gains.

ManualStan actually calls them Modes 0-3 so it's Mode 3 we're talking about. That confused me at first and realised I was listening to mode 2 (being the third). For those confused press the select button and hold. Mode 0 = one flash of red light ...... mode 3 = 4 flashes. Then release.

What did you make of the sound quality change between Mode 2 and 3, Paul?

What did you make of the sound quality change between Mode 2 and 3, Paul? Everything seemed tighter, easier on the ear and more pronounced. It was like listening to a different piece of kit.

What did you make of the sound quality change between Mode 2 and 3, Paul? Quite a big change. Sounds less digital / closer to analogue.
